We walked in here with our 2 young kids at 5.15pm. There were a couple of employees setting up a tree and a few inside. We stood there for a few minutes and no one said anything to us so we had to ask those setting up the tree if they were open and were told to come back in half an hour (no apology or anything for not addressing us first). We returned in 45 minutes and there were a couple of families seated at tables. Again we stood around for a few minutes while a few employees were walking around still setting up. Not one asked us if we wanted a seat, so again we had to approach them. The 'helper' (?) wasn't helpful, I don't think he knew what he was supposed to be doing (he sounded English) and he wasn't really sure about what we were supposed to do (ie do we sit ourselves etc?) Anyhow, we decided to sit, got the 2yr old out of the pram into the high chair and waited for several minutes. No one came. No one asked if we wanted menus or water. So we got up and went to the pub next door and were attended to immediately.
I understand that they may not have fully trained employees, or that they may not have been open the first time, but I have worked in customer service and it does not take a genius to know that you should at least greet a customer. If the store is closed, a simple 'sorry we are closed still but open at 6pm etc' would be great. They lost our business thanks to those mistakes.
