You walk through an area strewn with dead trees and branches to get to the springs which was off-putting. The spring is surrounded by more dead bush and needs cleaning up. It reeked of neglect. The water was wonderful though and warm. It's not very big but we enjoyed a swim as it was very hot and humid. We had lunch at the cafe which took a long time to come out. They have two pet kangaroos who hang around you. One of them wouldn't leave me alone and tried to eat my burger! The girl took it away. I had a barramundi burger which was good. There is a huge abundance of barra in the Northern Territory. The toilet block is painted by the local artists and is impressive

“Holiday Road at Bitter Springs”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 14, 2012

We have never swam at Bitter Springs before because access is hard in a bus with a trailer. The turn around bit at the end of the road would be impossible to get around when there are other motorhomes and cars already parked there.

Most people hate the smell of sulpher but we didn't mind it.

Everything else we loved about the place.Make sure you take your goggles as it is another world under the crystal clear water. You can see turtles and other creatures swimming around. Our kids had a blast. We did see a freshwater croc crossing the road on the way out so we can't guarantee you wont come across one.
Bitter Springs is a must see and we recommend the caravan park located right next door to it.

Great place to relax, enjoy the warm water and chat to the other visitors in a relaxing atmosphere.
As it is deep in some areas of the pool (I'm 6' and just managed it) I suggest you take a noodle with you. The noodle is perfect to just drift downstream with the current. There were even some turtles there during our visit.
Entry and exit to Springs is via steps which can be difficult for elderly or disabled but not overly so.
The car park is free which is great.
Enjoy your 'swim' in this very social environment.

“Small springs”

Small springs, ok to a dip in and float downstream but nothing special. Floaties available ffor hire (or free is you are staying in a cabin) at the nearby camp grounds.
