“We will be back”
Reviewed July 10, 2011

We were actually staying at another accommodation "just next door", but we were looking for ice, which we had been told by the people we were staying with that we could only get back at Bacholor, which is an hours drive there and back. So we were supprised that the accommodation next door had it. The friendly greeting we recieved from the owner of this establishment was in contrast to where we were staying. He not only sold us ice, but also a meat pack and a loaf of bread (and icecreams) which we were welcome to come back and cook on his bbq, under his party lights, at no charge. The next door accommodation would not let us eat at our accommodation, only in their expensive restaurant. We returned to have breakfast with the safari camp as we could get boiling water for our much missed cup of tea. I will be back at Litchfield again and I will be staying at the Litchfield Safari Camp. Excellent, helpful and friendly service goes along way, I can not recommend this establishment enough.

We stayed in a safari cabin at this Litchfield Safari Camp for 2 nights so that we could be near the main sites in Litchfield National Park w/o driving back and forth to Batchelor. The safari camp is mainly for tent campers and campervans, with just a few of these tent cabins on one edge. They are equivalent to a cabin in the woods but made from a heavy-duty, very large tent, and very expensive for what they are but the it's there's in this remote location there is little alternative. As a tent cabin, it was clean, pretty well buttoned-up against mosquitos, had a fridge, kettle to boil water for tea/coffee (and tea bags and instant coffee), fan, good screens, locking door, table and chairs on the front porch, barbeque, dishes, good lights, full bathroom + kitchen sink in a second room off the back, plenty of hotwater (not drinkable though), etc. There was a double bed and a single bed. The double bed and pillows both were very hard. Not surprisingly a few mosquitos got in, ants showed up when we left out a pastry for 5 minutes, and there were several very large spiders that we were told were not poisonous but liked to jump on people. A good reminder we were in the bush! The safari camp has no cafe although there was a small store where they stocked lots of frozen or packaged, prepared camp foods that could be cooked on a grill or heated in their microwave so you won't starve if you come w/o provisions. There is another camp/cabin facility just down the road that does have a cafe but we learned the hard way you MUST book a dinner reservation in advance (day before or at lunchtime) or they will not be open in the evening. Otherwise come prepared with your own food like you're camping and you'll be fine here. A major downside is that the place runs on generators and it also has a pool pump for a tiny above ground pool, so we were always listening to that background hum (and one night, a roar from the pool pump, due to some bad malfunction).. That's the price you pay to have electricity in these parts. The running water wasn't potable but they provided a filtered water tap wecould get safe water from at the office. We refilled water bottles two days and didn't get sick so it seemed fine.

We stayed in a Safari Tent at Wangi Tourist Park for one night. The tent was fine, with four beds and a small fridge - very basic but we were in a tent and in the middle of nowhere! The place was nice, great location in the park with widlife around.
We did encounter a few problems - the flyscreen zip for the tent door was broken and couldnt be zipped up. When we went to zip down the outer door, it zipped right off!! But there wasnt any bug problems so we managed fine.
Major problem was that we had relied apon the cafe in the neighbouring tent park for dinner, which is advertised 'Open all day, 7 days".... except the night we were there!! So we ate some rice biscuits and bought some cheese from the park were we were staying for about $6 and had that for dinner with an apple and some icecreams! We did bring some drinks though, so it was a very plesant evening in the end, but do come prepared!!!
We went to the cafe for breakfast the next morning which was fine. Their tents look much newer and modern.
The camping facilities and toilet.shower block at Wangi was fine. We would probably try the safari tents next door which include dinner, but in a pinch I would stay here again, but with a little lower expectation!
