This was a chance visit and we were hooked by the displays and especially the video which showed live footage of whales in the ocean.

“Don't Miss This One!”
Reviewed March 21, 2013

Living on the west coast of Canada, we are quite familiar with orcas (killer whales) that live nearby. Until now, we had never heard of orcas that worked with humans. We found out a lot at the Killer Whale Museum in Eden, NSW.

The skeleton of "Old Tom" is on display. Many years ago, Old Tom and other killer whales helped fishermen round up their catches - the only known instance of orcas helping humans.

But there's more than that at this Museum. The most complete tuna fishing description/explanation that I've ever seen along with old whaling displays. This is not your run-of-the-mill local museum. It's an honest and very satisfactory effort to describe the way things were back in the 19th Century and it's well worth a couple of hours of your time.

“Historical, Educational, Insightful”

The Killer Whale Museum taught us a lot about the whaling industry in years gone by. It's certainly not a huge place, but the exhibits are well put together. You need to patiently read all of the materials concerning each exhibit..there are no people on site to tell you the tales of the olden days. If you take your time and read about each exhibit you will learn some fascinating facts about the whaling era and the role the Killer Whales played in Eden.
