“Fabulous Italianate gardens”

Jardines de Santa Clotilde

Owner description: This wonderful garden was landscaped in a setting of great beauty on top of a cliff with breath-taking views over the sea, and it is a fine specimen of the spirit that animated the Noucentista movement in Catalonia - an early twentieth-century movement for intellectual and aesthetic renewal that found a distinguished spokesman in the writer Eugeni d'Ors. The Santa Clotilde gardens were designed in the manner of the dainty yet austere gardens of the Italian Renaissance by Nicolau Rubió i Tuduri at the age of twenty-eight, when he was still brimming over with admiration for his master in the art of landscape gardening, Forestier.

Of the 3 gardens we visited on the Costa Brava these are the most beautiful. They have been designed in an Italianate style ... lots of statues, Cypress trees fountains and steps. Absolutely fabulous sea views around every corner.

I read about the gardens online and was determined to visit them during our stay in May/June 2012.

I wasn't disappointed.

The gardens are so lovely with a fascinating love story attached - the gardens were planned as a tribute to one man's wife. I must explain that I visited them over a year ago so please excuse my memory regarding names and dates !

Santa Clotilde gardens are planted against the lovely backdrop of the sea. Very tranquil and good for the soul. Many 'classical' statues dotted around with a pretty lily pond and orange trees. Plenty of benches to rest on and drink in the scenery with one open area containing wooden sun loungers. A view of the nudist beach as well, if you havea strong constitution !

Very clean and spacious loos too.

In all, a wonderful cool escape. Either walk there from the beach or catch a bus.

Well tendered gardens, wonderful views of the sea and coastline. We spent almost two hours wandering around the gardens and taking in the vistas. There were some loungers overlooking the bay below which were a perfect spot for relaxing.

Really liked this place. Well kept clean tidy overlooks the sea with lovely views. Takes about 1hr 30mins to enjoy 5euros to get in with small gift shop. Take a drink with you has nowhere to buy one here. Also take your camera you will use it a lot!
