Owner description: This wonderful garden was landscaped in a setting of great beauty on top of a cliff with breath-taking views over the sea, and it is a fine specimen of the spirit that animated the Noucentista movement in Catalonia - an early twentieth-century movement for intellectual and aesthetic renewal that found a distinguished spokesman in the writer Eugeni d'Ors. The Santa Clotilde gardens were designed in the manner of the dainty yet austere gardens of the Italian Renaissance by Nicolau Rubió i Tuduri at the age of twenty-eight, when he was still brimming over with admiration for his master in the art of landscape gardening, Forestier.

Beautiful...Make sure you bring tons of water because it got pretty warm. Lovely views, dummy proof trail so that no one could get lost...it was very nice.

Not the sort of trip I would usually go on but glad I did, the gardens were immaculately kept and it is worth going for the beautiful sea views alone!

Enjoy the contents and ambient in this green and blue place. If you are in Lloret or around just visit it. Have fun.

Pick your day carefully as it rained whilst we were there and there is no shelter at all. Take a picnic as there is no where to buy food or drink. Nice gardens on a better day.

St. Chlotilde's Gardens are one of a group of three public gardens in this area and, from our perspective, by far the best. It is a formal Renaissance-style garden of green shrubs and trees complemented by statuary, created from 1919 onwards by a Spanish nobleman to enhance his villa. The gardens cover six and a half acres on the side of a hill facing the Mediterranean. Every way you turn is another breathtaking vista. Story boards at strategic points show photos taken from the 1930s up to recent times that illustrate the improvements made to bring the garden to its present beauty from its overgrown state following the Great Depression.

We live in Victoria with an annual pass to Butchart's Gardens. This garden in Lloret de Mar has a different style but is every bit as beautiful and puts Butchart's formal Italian garden in the shade. Well worth the time to get there and visit. There's a visitor's guide in English with a good walking route through. Plan for at least an hour or take a picnic lunch. Stairs and unpaved but excellent trails; wear walking shoes.

If you're driving, parking has to be on the street nearby because the parking lot is closed for construction of an adjacent villa. If you're travelling without a car, a day-long bus tour from Barcelona takes in St. Clothilde's along with a cactus garden (site of national significance) and a botanical garden, both in nearby Blanes. There is also a shuttle between the three gardens. We visited all three on the way from Girona to Barcelona and, again, found this easily the prettiest. The first garden you enter will give you half-off coupons for admission to the other two.
