Myself and cousin came here as a cheap last minute holiday at the end of July, we used on the beach to book the hotel and we booked an allocate on arrival holiday to one of the HTOP hotels, we were allocated the royal beach hotel and as we arrived we were informed the hotel was fully booked and we had been relocated to the royal star hotel, the hotel paid for the taxi to take us to the hotel, this was annoying but at least we had an apology and it was paid for by the hotel. All the staff at both hotels spoke really good English and were very polite and friendly throughout our stay.
The bar staff were excellent and had us entertained every evening with their positive attitudes.
The alcohol was definitely not watered down as we found out on our first night, took full advantage of the all inclusive and the cocktail of the day at the bar every evening.
The food was average, just like all the 4star hotels I have previously stayed at, the meals were to suit everyone, a varied selection of meat, salad, chips, different fish dishes, vegetables etc, we always managed to eat enough. The only down fall was the cards, you are given 2cards, an all inclusive drinks card so u can swap your card for a cup/glass but u have to return your cup to the bar each...Myself and cousin came here as a cheap last minute holiday at the end of July, we used on the beach to book the hotel and we booked an allocate on arrival holiday to one of the HTOP hotels, we were allocated the royal beach hotel and as we arrived we were informed the hotel was fully booked and we had been relocated to the royal star hotel, the hotel paid for the taxi to take us to the hotel, this was annoying but at least we had an apology and it was paid for by the hotel. The only down fall was the cards, you are given 2cards, an all inclusive drinks card so u can swap your card for a cup/glass but u have to return your cup to the bar each time to get a new drink or gain your card back, losing the cup or card costs you €2 for another. This does mean the site is cleaner and less cups are littering. The all inclusive food card is also an annoyance as you need to present the card each time you enter the food halls, I've only ever been all inclusive on holidays and normally they have a band system- this is not the case here.
We are 2 females who wanted a relaxing holiday with a night life if we felt like it, the night life is far enough away from the hotel to not cause disturbance but close enough to walk to the strip of clubs and bars. The beach is local but not sandy, it's grit, this was still nicer than a stony beach and on the plus side no sand in mouth or eyes.
We managed to get a sun lounger at the pool each day without fail, even if we went down at 2pm! It was nice to see the sun beds being used by people in and around the pool, rather than the beds being taken up by towels and no people near them, also, there were 2 pools both with children's pools. The weather was brilliant and we ventured to the royal beach hotel on our last day to see what we were missing out on, honestly, it looked the same but they have a secret pool and jacuzzis on the 7th floor (roof top) this was a must! The bar was open for 10 minutes then closed even though the signs said the bar times and the bar was meant to be open, when the bar did reopen the bar man informed us he was fed up with being on the bar by himself and seemed frustrated with working at the hotel - not a good review for the royal beach staff!
Im pleased we were relocated on arrival as we both had a great, cheap, last minute holiday with amazing weather and felt safe and stress free walking around the local shops, the local people were friendly and not intimidating.
Entertainment was poor, but the children managed to join in, we did see a reptile show which was short and sweet this was the only entertainment that we enjoyed, could have been a longer show.
The room was very clean and always had new towels and the bedding changed every 2days, the maid was brilliant, on a few occasions we just wanted new towels so popped out and the maid swapped them happily. The rooms are air conditioned as long as the door is closed and locked. The air conditioning was really quiet too, no dripping! The shower was adequate and a good temperature also. The beds were comfortable and we slept really well, no back ache which you normally get staying on a bed that's not your own.
We were sad to be heading home and would definitely return to this hotel in the future and would book through on the beach again too. Christine and Katt
