“Great value for money...”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

Visited the Hotel Top Royal Star in July 2012 and was a little bit sceptical after reading various awful reviews for this hotel. However, after staying at the hotel i had to wonder whether the people who wrote the bad reviews were just very intoxicated for the whole trip and/or mad??? The food each day had a large variety and was always tasty and hot with a choice for everyone! The drinks although served in plastic cups were plentiful and choice for anyone and everyone with a different cocktails included in the all inclusive deal each day!
The room was great even for 3 people sharing and was regularly cleaned wirh sheets changed on a daily basis unless requested not to :) The staff were friendly when we spoke to them on reception and everything in the whole hotel was kept clean and tidy.
The swimming pools... there were 2 main pools and an inside pool with plentiful sun loungers and the temperature was kept perfect with all pools being spotless! The location of the hotel was perfect as it was not smack bang in the middle of Lloret De Mar so did not suffer from the nightlife traffic and was about a 5-10 min walk to the town centre and also the beaches :) The only problem we had was with loud Germans but you cant really blame the hotel for this... would definitely visit again!

Took my husband there for a surprise trip - iit was one of those Roulette holidays where you don't know where you are staying till a few days before. Anyway - was told we were staying the Amaika a week before - did all the research and it looked good - after a 3 hour transfer (not sure why it toook so long!) we got there only to be told that our booking could not be honoured and that we had to go to another HTop hotel - the Royal Star - after loads of tears from me and calls to the agent int he UK on the hotel phone and back and forth it was agreed they would pay the taxi fare for us to get to the other hotel (ps: - I am pregnant so was so tired and hungry and so cranky i couldn't help the tears!) Anyway, Royal Star staff checked us in immediately and were really friendsly. It is a basic hotel with the maint hings you need - entertainment is lacking, the animation team don't seem to be bothered if people take part or not.

The food is repetivite but you always find something you can eat. If you don't like the smell of fish you could struggle because meal times always smelt like fish! The hotel is not far form Lloret centre where all the bars and clubs and shops are so worth a walk to the beach - the hotel it'self if a little way from the beach so maybe a day trip instead of a pop to beach and back thing. The only thing I struggles with was the all inclusive drink/cup thing - they don't do wrist bands so you have to hand in your all inclusive card and a drink card everytime you have a drink - meaning you can only get one at a time and the cups are tiny so you are always standing to get one. The bar staff were very friendly though so wasn't too bad waiting to be served.

Would I go back - no - only because I can't imagine being so far from a beach when originally we were in a hotel right on the promenade!

Room Tip: The higher the room the better - less noise formt he busy main road outside and all the early mornin...

The Hotel boasts 4 star rating but that would only be regards the accommodation ,the food hall represents that of workshop canteen with standard and quality that I rate the worst I have ever seen ,we had to jostle with French and Spanish residents to grab a table or scramble to reach the self service food troughs. If you required a drink from any of the bar areas you had to queue relentlessly .The card system worked ok but the so called entertainment best suited that of the French residents as we sat in what was a basic canteen with a dance floor. There was no first aid when I had an accident by slipping in a bath come shower unit and sustaining cuts and bruises and damaged ribs. There was no sign of any lifeguards around the two outside pools. The staff especially the person calling himself the head chef are extremely rude. In the rooms the air conditioning automatically switches off. This leaves the room hot ,so if you open the balcony windows you have to up with up sounds from drunken residents and the incessant roar provided by the road traffic from the outside of the front of the hotel. We had to resort to going out for meals as the all inclusive food was an absolute disgrace.

Room Tip: Rooms that surround the square pool are the worst if you value a good nights sleep.

After reading some of the reviews for this hotel I was slightly worried. Firstly I found all members of staff really friendly and helpful especially the bar staff for me the card system wasn't a problem because at the end of the day the bar staff did not have to spend time collecting glasses which meant they were free to serve more people simples. We found the food was good we had something different everyday and for the price we paid we did not expect Michelin Star food although I did notice that there was not a great choice for kids. Our room was cleaned every day and if we needed clean towels we left them on the bathroom floor as is the custom and we got them. As for noise the only night we were disturbed it was by some forty something Brits who decided they would jump in the pool and play and sing-along to music on their phone at 12.30 at night they were swiftly removed by hotel security.
So if asked would I stay here again the answer would be yes, when we arrived our room was not ready but we were allowed to store our cases we did not have to wait too long.

Room Tip: a room over looking one of the two pools because if you get a room at the back of the hotel you w...

Came to this hotel for a cheap holiday so I wasn't expecting a lot from it but it was worse than thought.

-The reception and bar staff are very rude everything in general is very disorganized.
-The room view was of a run down building and a prickle bush!
-I couldn't eat anything the food was disgusting! The drinks are watered down and you only get a cup at a time and the cups are tiny.
-Nothing entertaining for young/middle aged people all caters for the old's and it's all french and Spanish people.
-Eggs were thrown onto our balcony I called reception and they said they will come see what had happened and didn't even come.
-If your not the first one to a meal you won't get a table or have to sit on one with dirty plates and have to find cutlery, you have to que up for your drinks which takes forever.

The only thing I can say what was really good about the hotel is that the indoor pool , sauna ect. was good because the 2 outside pools were freezing.

Basically if your old its perfect for you, if your young or like having a drink and actually eating DON'T GO HERE!

Room Tip: If your put into a room with horrible views complain at reception and you will get moved, we weren...

Just back from the 4 Star Royal Star... All Inclusive is a joke, food is awful and drinks are watered down! Staff extremely rude – I broke my plastic glass so the guy behind the bar demanded 2 euro for a replacement, I asked for his name as he was very rude. He took his name badge off, slammed if down on the counter and became very aggressive. Don’t waste your money staying here, most of the people I spoke to were really disappointed – I don’t know how this place can be advertised as a 4 Star Hotel… I would rate it 2 Star for food and drink and possibly a 3 star for cleanliness.
