This Hotel is in a beautiful and quiet location but very close to Garmisch. The bus stop is just down from the entrance to the hotel and you get a Grainau Stadt card and can ride the bus to Garmisch or the Eibsee for free. The room wasn't large but a good size. The breakfast was very good. The young man who runs the hotel was very friendly and made it a point to talk with us whenever he saw us. There are many good restaurants within walking distance and the town of Grainau was quaint and friendly. My only complaint was the beds. They are very firm and I prefer a softer mattress. No air conditioning which usually isn't a problem because the weather is very pleasant but they were having very warm weather when we visited. There is no lift to the upper floors.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the mountains.

Garni Post is a large family run hotel. We stayed for a week in one of the apartments which had a large bedroom, living room, kitchen and bath. We had a balcony with views of the Zugspites. It was on the top floor and there is no elevator but you get used to the 3 flights of stairs. Everything was comfortable and very clean. They provide you with plenty of kitchen utensils, towels and bedding. Included in your stay is a Grainau Pass which lets you use the local train between Eibsee, Grainau & Garmish and the local buses. Since we had an apartment we did not eat breakfast which is provided with regular rooms or at an extra cost for those renting apartments. The family is available during the daytime to help with information about the area or anything you could need. They have umbrellas and walking sticks you can use. We completely enjoyed our week. It is a great location for exploring the area. Grainau has some great restaurants and shops. Not a complaint but to be aware, there is no AC and while this is not a problem in most of the hotel if you stay on the top floor it can get warm, especially since they had a heat wave while we were there. It would be nice to have wifi in the room but it is available in the lobby and one area of the 1st floor.

My husband and I booked this for a anniversary weekend getaway. Upon arrival, the staff was very considerate and friendly. After driving 6 hours in the rain, the last thing we wanted to do was drive to dinner. The staff directed us to a wonderful restaurant within a 3 minute walk. The hotel room was very neat and clean. So quiet! The staff even invited us to watch an important soccer game on TV one evening. The breakfast was delightful and had everything one needs for a healthy day of sightseeing. Upon our departure, the staff checked the news to make sure we could get out of the area due to record breaking flooding. All in all, a lovely place to stay. We can't wait to come back!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a little balcony overlooking the mountains.

This is such a lovely place to stay I am torn between wanting to shout about it and wanting to keep it a wonderful secret place. Have gone for the shout out because this place deserves to be cherished. Superb location, nestled at the foot of the Bavarian alps. Views from our room were absurdly beautiful, with alpine meadows and the mighty mountains, all to the soundtrack of cow bells and church bells. To be served breakfast by a man utterly at ease in his lederhosen unleashed my inner Heidi. And the summer walking was a joy - although we did ascend the summit for a chilly hit. Family run for generations, the care and pride in their hotel in their village in their region was palpable, and touching. Long, long may they continue.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back look on (well up and up and up) to the mountains. Takes your breath away.

The Hotel Post in Grainau is the perfect spot for a wonderful family vacation. We just returned from our two week stay at the Hotel Post to celebrate Christmas and a big wedding anniversary - nobody wanted to leave. This was our third family vacation at the Hotel Post in 10 years. Ander and family are friendly, gracious hosts that helped us with everything: dinner reservations, sleds for the kids, info on local events, hosting a special raclette dinner, etc. The Seufferth Family that runs the Hotel Post has always been charming, helpful, and they go above and beyond - they even left the kids treats and presents in the room at Christmas and jams and other gifts for the adults. Ander speaks excellent English is always eager to help.

There is so much to do in this gorgeous town - skiing, sledding, hiking, taking the train up the Zugspitze, enjoying the local Gluhwein stand, skating, swimming, etc. It is one of the most impressive mountain towns we have ever seen, and we live in Colorado. We spent most days hiking to the Eibsee-Alm or Neuneralm to have lunch complete with oompa bands and delicious bratwurst. Then we would sled home. Everyday was an adventure, and our kids loved every minute of our vacation. For more options, hop the Zugspitzbahn (5 minute walk from hotel, if even) and head up to the top of the highest mountain in Germany or down towards Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In G-P, we visited the Christmas market, saw world cup ski jumping, had a picnic in a pasture, and usually go ice skating at the Olympic center.

When we stay at the Hotel Post, we prefer the apartments like Bodele, Thorle and Wank. Each has a kitchenette with is perfect for cooking your own meals. We normally bought groceries at the local market, zipped out in the morning for fresh rolls, and cooked most of our dinners. There are great restaurants nearby like the Zierwald in town, but going out with 12 people every night can be tricky. Each apartment had a fridge, sink, two burners.

The accommodations at the Hotel Post are clean and simple but cozy. Rooms are peaceful and comfortable. Amazing views from all the balconies - of the mountains on one side, beautiful church on the other, and views of twinkling lights in town. Don't miss the Christmas market or the Schnee Fest!

The Hotel Post is charming, fun, and just the spot for a terrific family vacation. We can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: Our favorite is Bodele. Two rooms, a common room plus bathroom. Nice view from balconies.

Our grandparents first took us to Grainau and the Post Hotel in the 1960s. My brother and I decided to revisit our childhood this summer and were delighted to find that the Post Hotel was still operating as a family business. The location is fabulous, very central and at the foot of the Waxenstein and Zugspitze mountains. The hotel seems to have hardly changed, and is charming in a nostalgic and unpretentious way. The staff were warm and very accommodating. We found our rooms clean, quiet and very comfortable. Each had a balcony with a good view, firm beds and upgraded bathrooms. The breakfasts in the cosy 'stube' were generous. Graniau is a lovely little mountain village with lots on offer - good traditional restaurants, plenty of excellent walking, a huge outdoor swimming pool. We would definitely go back to the Post Hotel and recommend it highly for value for money and traditional charm - we liked it so much we decided to stay an extra night!

Last week I returned to this hotel after 4 years. Nothing changed in this place which means it keeps it's quality. The service is good and breakfast is excellent. The rooms are spacious and clean. I think I had found my base camp in Bavaria in this place.
