This jyotirling is a major attraction because of its vicinity near Narmada River. The hanging bridge & boat taxis are major attraction.

You can hire boat & get to mangleshwar in 5-7 minutes.

The boat ride to Sri omkareshwar and mamleshwar was highly fulfilling . Descent to the dock and ascent to omkareshwar has lot of steps but it's worth it . Lord at omkareshwar n mamleshwar emanates divinty . The whole vicinity can be improved drastically . It takes one hour to cover both temples .

A very full on experience but loved everything from the boat across to the darshan itself. It does get crazy and you do need to be careful. The temple priests are also quite rough in moving people along and I got tapped on the head to move me along!

But the people we met were amazing! would recommend a darshan if you can hack the mania!

Divine place, surrounded by river , earlier you have to essentially ride a boat for reaching up to main shrine but now you can reach directly by bridges... the river narmada flows in shape of "Aum" and hence the name Omkareshwar...
Must visit once if you are a devotee of Lord Shiva and also the near buy areas are full of natural beauty

If you worship Shiva, this is a must visit place. This place is approx 70km from Indore and can be completed in day trip. Narmada is one of the holy river and you can take dip before visiting the temple.

Omkareswar is little far from Ujjain. Most people like to club Mahankal(Ujjain) and Omkareswar..So planning becomes the key to visit both the places.Travel distance is 3.5hrs( approx).Problems with location omkareswar is you will not get good hotel to stay. You have to comeback.
There are two opitions
1)If you are coming by train/Flight to Indore and reaching in morning i will suggest first to visit Omkareswar and then go to Ujjain. While visiitng Omkareswar you have a forest. The travel time increases in the night.
2) If you reached in the afternoon the i will suggest go to Ujjain, see all the temples and next day morning visit Omkareswar and abode the flight in the evening. Mahankal evening visit is special. You can have clouser darshan with the LORD.

One of the 9 Jyotirling at Ujjain is this Onkareshwar.

Housing a very complex and articulated network of very large number of Shivling and Shiva Temples is this Onkareshwar Temple.

We can have a great view of the Rope way bridge, Narmada River, Ahilya devi Holkar Ghaat and all the prominent Dam on Narmada River situated at the Sangam of Narmada and Kaveri river.

The dam is not accessible to common public but can be seen from all over the place.

A good religious place at Ujjain.

Go if you are visting for religious reasons only . Sucking pandits all around will call you for stupid things , just ignore them . Boat walas will call ignore them . There is parking near bridges and it will charge 50 rupees for day . First visit Omakareshwar using concrete bridge and directly go to temple ,no big lines , have your water, flower etc with you . come out take your shoes and cross JHULA pull and reach Mumalshawr ( beautiful temple ) and take path at the bank side of river to reach your parking again . It will take hardly 1 hour to complete if you are not in trap of pundits .
You can take local food as per your wish there itself . On the way to Indore do not eat any thing in Dhabas ( they usually keep old unhygienic frozen foods ( specially big looking Ishwar singh Dhaba ).

I live in Canada and I am on a mission to visit all the Jyotirlings with my wife. We went to Indore to visit both Mahalkeshwar and Omkareshwar. The drive from Indore to Omakreshwar is very beautiful through hilly area and you pass through many small towns. When you reach the Temple, it gives you a very peaceful feeling. There are some very old temples on this side of the river. You can cross the river by a boat or a new bridge. I suggest to cross the river by boat and then come back on foot. The Boat will stop on a small island in the river and you can take a dip if you want. The water was crystal clear when I went in February. The jyotirling is very small but they let you touch the jyotirling which is a beautiful magical feeling. Must go there once in your life.
