“In the middle of nowhere, this place is a neat escape”

If you don't think you like wine all that much, chances are they'll have so something you'll like. Duplin's wines tend to be on the sweeter side, which I used to not care for much. They're smooth and not overwhelming in their sweetness, though.

Beyond the free and VERY informative tastings, which can last about 45 minutes to an hour, they also have free tours of the bottling facility. The wines are some of the most reasonable I've seen, considering the height of quality. If you join their club, you not only get free wine packs, but also get huge discounts.

This place is great for basic wine lovers or those just looking for something to do over the weekend. Any friends/family members that visit from out of state make sure we don't miss a trip to Duplin. Check it out! You'll go back, too!

“Wine with a side of food and entertainment!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 8, 2012

The Duplin Winery, located in Rose Hill, NC, has a dinner theater attached to the winery. During the regular year there are various dinner shows at the winery theater. At Christmas time there is a country Christmas show.
The food isn't the greatest, but it is typical of attractions like this one. We had roast beef, potatoes, and broccolini. And of course there was a complimentary glass of Duplin Winery wine to get your taste buds in the mood. The highlight of the meal was a desert of Naughty & Nice Spice Cake, with Tattle Tale Glaze. (Tattle Tale is one of the special wines produced at the winery!)
The show was a nice collection of religious and secular Christmas songs, with a vocal cast of four and a backup band of some 10 musicians. While not quite as smooth as the casts at some other similar shows, there is a down home touch that is a perfect match for the local. The show is just a little long and could have been shortened by eliminating some of the "humor".
All in all, a very entertaining evening.
Tickets for the dinner and show is $50.

“Wine Tasting Like Mass Production”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 3, 2012

We visited the Duplin Winery in September as a part of a package deal that included one night hotel, bottle of wine, 2 bistro lunches w/ 2 glasses of wine and a dessert - all at a more than reasonable price! This is a great couples and girlfriends event with nice shopping, jams & jellies, and many gifts for wine folks. Kids seemed ok as well as husbands. However, the wine tasting was like a mass production. There were about 20 of us seated lengthwise at a bar and we could not always hear the man describing what we were tasting. In addition, he kept losing track of where he ended. There were other tastins, some in small groups and some in large but I must say after visiting over 50 of NC's wineries, I truly like the ones that give more individualized tastings. If I return, I will stick to the Bistro and skip the tasting. The Bistro should be visited and the food/price was truly memorable as well as the gift shop. Needless to say, we did not purchase any wine that day as we usually do at all the wineries we visit.
