We stayed at the State Guesthouse for a whole week. It is wonderfully situated at a quiet end of town, amongst parkland and on the slender lake. It is near the football stadium and shops, yet on the quiet road leading out to the Buddhist temple. Taxis from the hotel are very cheap - less than a dollar to get to the centre of town or to the temple.
The site is a large one with lawned gardens and lake. It is divided into different buildings, which look like pagodas from the outside. Each area has a restaurant and its own staff.
The rooms are large and comfortable, with all that you need. During the very hot season, the entire hotel is wonderfully cooled and the aircon workes very well throughout.
Internet access is speedy, but limited by the state sensor.
The dining area offers a wide variety of foods - the incredibly eclectic mix of Chinese and all other foods. Enough choice to give everybody seomthing to keep them happy.
We would only mention one let-down. The swimming pool is large and divided into lanes. They don't seem to have got their heads around leisure swimming, and if you go to the pool (which is Olympic sized), you will need to be serious about swimming, not just messing around in the water.
If we were to return to Yangzhou again, we would certainly stay at this hotel. Truly wonderful.
