“It's very pretty, crowded though”
Reviewed April 20, 2014

Even we didn't have enough time to finish the whole walk, we enjoyed the scenary. If you come during off season, I believe it will be more quiet and beautiful.

“Interesting Scenery”
Reviewed April 8, 2014

Definitely worth a visit when you go to Yangzhou. This was my second visit to the lake and it happened to snow while we were there. To see everything will probably take you two days.

“the Non-fattening Slender West Lake”
Reviewed February 11, 2014

I taught in Yangzhou for a while and visited here many times. It is famous for gardens, pavilions, water features and the bonsai (penjing) display. In fact the world conference on bonsai was held here a couple of years back. Some newer areas have been added with rocky outcrops and waterfalls that are a little contrived in my opinion but most of it is relaxing, interesting and varied The best parts rival .the gardens in Suzhou. I just love the 5 pavilion bridge and the peninsula feature. Some nice sculptures of the immortals? I think. A 1000 photo opportunities abound.

Spring is a beautiful time but it will be crowded especially on weekends. This is a famous and popular centre of Chinese tourism and Chinese tour groups are led by a noisy mini-megaphone wielding guide and shatter the ambience. Non-Western food, snacks like strange coloured ice cream and some coffee. Avoid the chicken feet!

Yangzhou snows in winter and the lake is beautiful then; it can be very hot is summer but you can hire a boat to cool down.

Yes the admission price is a little high. I bought a year ticket and it gets you into other attractions too

Unlike a lot of Chinese attractions it's super clean (maybe that's part of the admission )
If you are in Yangzhou don't miss it.

“Pay to walk along a lake”
Reviewed February 7, 2014 via mobile

Why we have to pay for walking along a lake that is part of the city? It is about ¥150 per person, which is 10% of a typical monthly income in that city. After a 3 hour drive to get there it was upsetting. Not to mention that the air was so polluted that any outdoor activity was a bit foolish. We walked on the other side of the lake and invested the savings into a nice foot care. That's what the city is famous for.
City Parks should be free to visit. Don't we pay enough taxes?
