I stayed for two nights in January 2011 (even though the default date indicates 2012). I found Clifford Golden lake Resort on the Internet when I was looking for a hotel in the area when I was planning a trip to visit historic sites in Guangdong and booked it sight unseen. It is the nearest accommodation to the birthplace of Kang Youwei, a famous Chinese reformer, who I was studying. I travelled from Hong Kong to Gaoming by boat and found the resort a little difficult to get to. I recommend a taxi for anyone doing the same connection. It was much easier to get from the hotel into Guangzhou because a direct bus makes regular trips for a nominal price.
The hotel is part of a large resort with outdoor swimming, paddle boats, rental bicycles, a beautiful garden and other amenities. Most staff speak English and provided friendly and excellent service. The restaurant was superb and reasonably priced.
Nearby is a major industrial area, but there are plenty of pockets of beautiful rural countryside and small, picturesque villages to visit, many within an easy walk of the resort.
Rooms were clean, quiet and up-to-date.More
