It was our 3rd visite to this campground. We were close to thé beach so this was cool. The acces to thé sound is cool too.

À lot of work has been done since Irène, but... Still. RV sites are on the sand and Gravel compared to the other campground beside the KOA. It is very dirty the small amont of grass has not been cut for weeks ( we stayer 3 weeks).

Wifi was not available to the camp site and was not workiing at the only so called hot spot. The staff even suggested that we go to a nerby store to get wifi since they had no idea nor interest in solving the issu.

Câble was available, but so bad That It was ridiculous.

The pool is really Nice and the entry for the kids is top notch. All the new buildings are probably good for the business but have no interest for the people in the RV. It seems That most of the effort to recover from irène have been put toward The new customers ( new buldings)and returning customers are not having what They were used to.

Sorry but next year It is going to be at an othe campground.

My wife and I were traveling for her birthday. Last year we went to an all-inclusive resort in Mexico, so this year we went the other way: camping on the Outer Banks! We called the day before we were to arrive, and had no problem booking a tent site with KOA Hatteras. We looked into one of the cabins which are also available, but of the two nights we would be staying a cabin was only open for one of them. We decided to go with a tent site for both nights.

The facilities are excellent. As noted in other reviews, Hurricane Irene destroyed almost all of the facility, so everything is recently constructed or rebuilt. The grounds were very well maintained, though it would be worth trying to get a site on higher ground if possible. We saw some heavy rains which had our site ankle deep in water, which was slow to drain. Our tent kept the water out, but the site did get a little splashy.

The pool is large with two tube-style slides and a beach-like ramp at one end. A section is even roped off for lap swimming. There is a cafe adjacent to the pool which serves drinks and burger/chicken/pizza style food. A bouncy trampoline style feature next to the pool is also available. There's pirate-themed playground equipment as well. The campground has bikes, pedal carts, trikes, and golf carts available to rent, but we did not rent any of them ourselves. Be prepared for a lot of children on the property.

They offer a well stocked mini-mart at the check in office, but beware: you will be paying captive audience prices. 8.99 for twelve bottles of water? Bring supplies, is my recommendation. If you do need something, there is a well stocked Shell station a couple miles south where you'll pay convenience store prices, which are still lower than the campground's. Staff patrol the grounds pretty regularly, so if you have any questions or needs you won't have to look far to ask someone.

The bath facilities are cleaned between noon at 1:00 every day, which seems to keep them well enough clean. The bathrooms are clean, spacious, and air conditioned, and the shower rooms are well kept.

Definitely worth our stay! We got a KOA membership, and based on our experience at KOA Hatteras we are glad we did.

This was a last minute 3 night trip to Hatteras KOA. Booking online was very easy and when we had to make a change to our reservation, this was accomplished without any problem too. We stayed here in a popup camper the 3rd weekend in July. The new bath houses are very nice and clean. We stayed one row from the ocean in a pull through site. There was a nice breeze from the ocean that kept the mosquitos at bay, but didn't cool things off. As expected for july,We ran our ac 24/7. We spent most of our time on the beach and never went in the pool. From what we could see, however, it was very nice. The wifi advertised was nonexistent where we stayed. The cable worked fine. The campground is in a good location for seeing the rest of Hatteras island, or driving up to Nags Head.

Room Tip: Call the campground directly and tell them the type of site you want. Not only will they help you pi...

Stayed 3 nights 4 days with my family
Of 4: 2 adults and 2 kids 8&3 yo @ KOA Cape Hatteras and our stay was simply awesome. The kabin was clean. The camp grounds clean I felt a sense of security. Pool was clean and big with enough chairs. The big bounce was a hit with the kids. Many kids activities. The shower rooms could use more frequent cleaning would rate that a 3/5.
We traveled with another family and they stayed in the lodge. That was superb, included: bathroom, fridge, deck with grill. The staff were friendly, helpful & responsive.
Already planning our trip for next year.

Stayed her for three nights with our RV during our recent visit to Hatteras Island. They have done a great job here recovering from last years hurricane. New bath facilities are top notch. Only complaint about the bath house that we used was the air cond seemed not to be working so well. My only other complaint was that I could not get the free WiFi to work. Our site was 200 feet from the beach with easy access. Had a great experience at this campground.

I've been staying at this KOA since the early 1980s, and much has changed since that time. The staff were friendly and helpful, but seeing as we went during the prime season (2nd week of July) they were really busy, especially in the office/store area, which is not unexpected.

The bath house was exceptionally clean, but VERY cold due to the A/C being almost too strong. They could benefit from turning the A/C to a slightly higher temperature setting. The pool was great, and the kids really loved the water slide.

Unfortunately, over the years, much has changed at this KOA. There used to be a nice long boardwalk from the campground through the dunes to the beach, and the kids loved to look at the lizards and other wildlife; however the campground has been expanded into this section, so the wildlife and dunes are gone now. There is also a greater emphasis on people with campers and RVs than there used to be (i.e. there was a LOT more tent camping here at one time).

However, the worst aspect of the KOA is price. It's over $60/night for a simple tent campsite with water and a shelter! The shelters nearly all have leaky roofs. There are no BBQ grills at the sites (there used to be one at nearly every site). Campfire rings are $10/night to rent (simply outrageous!) The level of mark-up at the camp store is also ridiculous. A bottle of mosquito repellent that would cost $4.95 in the grocery store was $7.99 at the camp store!

One final thing. Beware of eating breakfast at the cafe by the pool. They have a septic pump and treat system at the site, and they tend to pump it out in the morning. Be prepared to eat your pancakes with the smell of sewage wafting into the cafe!
