We chose to stay at Waves Village because it was waterfront, pet-friendly, and did online reservations for stays shorter than 1 week. We stayed in the Life is Good unit, and were thrilled to discover that it looks exactly as it does in the pictures. The furniture and furnishings were beautiful, and the view couldn't be beat. We had never been to Rodanthe before, but found it to be the perfect place for a nice, quiet getaway. A few downsides: the hot tub had not been heated up before our arrival, and it took about 24 hours to heat, so we weren't able to use it upon arrival (and we were only staying 3 nights, so that was very disappointing). Also, the elevator is VERY slow; and actually broke down completely on the day we were checking out. My mother is handicapped and my brother has severe asthma, so that was another reason we had chosen Waves- we could have a room with a view and not have to worry about them having to navigate the stairs. This was a major inconvenience when we were checking out as my husband and I had to schlep all of our belongings down three flights of stairs. Finally, on our last morning (checkout was advertised as 10am) at 9AM, while we were having breakfast the housekeeper pounded on our door, "just to see" if we were ready to leave yet. This really put a sour note on the end of our vacation- we thought that the 10am checkout was a bit excessive as it was, and then we felt rushed as we were trying to pack up and get out (the housekeeper stood outside the door watching as my husband and I made countless trips up and down the stairs due to the broken elevator). For the hefty price tag, an earlier check in and later check out would have been appreciated. All that said, though, it was a really nice destination, and we would probably stay again.
