The Comfort Inn North, Rocky Mount (at the Gold Rock exit) is basically OK, but I wouldn't kill to stay there. The rooms appeared to have been recently recarpeted and painted (including the spatter left on the TV!), and were clean. The beds were also comfortable. However, a chemical smell was in the room, which seemed stronger when we ran the air conditioner (some "freshener" in the unit?). The bath was also small, consisting of a sink at the back of the room, with the toilet and tub jammed into a small room to the sink's right, lit by a low wattage bulb. The continental breakfast area was also cramped, although stocked well with a waffle maker, bagels, juice and coffee, etc. Staff were friendly and helpful. So, a mixed bag that's neither a "must stay" nor an "avoid at all costs."
