“Perfect Weekend Getaway”
Reviewed August 4, 2013

From the friendly staff at check in to the wonderful breakfast the next morn, our stay at Tapoco was impressive from start to finish. The cabin was private and the beds were so comfy. Dinner at Jasper's was outstanding. We needed a night away and this place obliged.

Room Tip: White Oak cabin is well worth it.

A warm welcome was just the beginning of our long weekend at Tapoco Lodge! The owners (Ronnie & Terry), the staff (especially Karen and Becky) and the canine greeters (Kirby and Reese) became good friends and are experts on the historic lodge and the area in general. Jasper's was amazing --great food, excellent tableside service, lovely dining room! Breakfasts were outstanding as well -- order just about anything your heart desires! The grounds are so gorgeous, you might not want to leave the property, but we did and were amazed at the beauty of the NC mountains! Our room (the Dogwood in the Lodge) was immaculate and welcoming. The bed linens, towels and robes were high quality and comforting. Each morning we awoke to see hummingbirds at the feeder outside our windows. The river at the edge of the property calmed and soothed us! (Karen explained it's the negative ions!) Met many nice folks and enjoyed a wonderful stay at this historic and oh-so-friendly Lodge! Looking forward to returning and sharing this wonderful place with friends!

If you are looking for a beautiful country retreat with extremely gracious staff and excellent food, Tapoco Lodge is a place you need to visit. Our room in the lodge overlooked the river. Bedding and bed were luxurious and the modern bath, renovated in the Inn’s 1930s style, was spotless. Guest robes were in the closet. It didn’t take long to realize the owners thought of every comfort. If you find you are lacking something, a casual mention to the staff seems to make those things appear! The owners and their entire staff are extraordinary and this place is a gem. You won’t believe the quality associated with their American plan. Read the separate reviews on Jasper’s Restaurant, but in a word, ‘fabulous!’ Tapoco Lodge offers a number of surprises which shouldn’t be spoiled in a review but you will enjoy the history of the inn and their grounds. While we were there, we kept thinking of occasions to return and friends to share this wonderful experience with.

Room Tip: River view rooms are very nice but the entire setting is wonderful. Central air means no A/C noise...

I found the lodge 3 years ago in 2011 while riding motorcycles in the area.I spoke to the staff at the lodge.I booked my reservation for the spring of 2012.I travel down on motorcycle to the lodge. When I arrived I was greeted in front of the lodge by two wonderful staff members. My wife and I stayed two nights. We had four meals at the lodge of witch were out of this world. The cabins are rustic but when you got to places like the TAPOCO that is what you should exspect. There is a lot of history there and Ronnie and his wife the owners as well as the staff take a lot of pride in the lodge.I just was there for my 2nd year and was treated like family.I haven't stayed many places where the owner speaks to you by your first name and when you have to leave thanks you in person, shakes your hand, and thanks you for your stay.Give it a try you will love it.I will be going back again next year.See you in the spring.

We found out about Tapoco Lodge through a feature by NC Public TV. It really intrigued us and we decided to visit. A week or so before the visit I looked at reviews about this property and could not believe what I was reading. Never before had I read so many superlatives and no negative comments. I told my wife it couldn't be that good. I was right, it was better. This is obviously a labor of love for Ronnie and Terry, but it doesn't stop there. All of the staff is committed to making your stay the best it can be. The property is gorgeous, the service impeccable, and the food at both breakfast and dinner is as good as it gets. We have been fortunate to eat at some of the best restaurants in New Orleans and the food at Jaspers is definitely that quality. Ronnie is incredibly knowledgeable about the area and the history of Tapoco Lodge and you could spend the day just listening to him talk about the area. He took us on a hike along the river to a wonderful waterfall on the property, all along the way stopping to point out interesting features and information. But this isn't just about Ronnie and Terry. The whole staff is dedicated to one thing; making your stay the best it can be. This is definitely one of the best, if not the best, places we have ever stayed.

Tapoco Lodge is spectacular. It has been refurbished by it new owner, Ronnie. He has included many very interesting collectibles that make the decoration very interesting. The service at the establishment is superb. This was a new experience to stay in one of the mountain cabins...Cheoh #3. I had stayed there before way back in the day, and an Ohio 1966 license plate commemorates my visit. The five course dinner at Jason's was my special Birthday Treat. There is nothing like an hour and a half pampered dinner. Breakfast on the river was another special treat. Ronnie transformed the back of the inn from a parking/maintenance area into a gorgeous scenic outside eater area adjacent to a classic walk in tavern. The entire property is beautiful and peaceful.

Room Tip: The drive up NC 129 is a local attraction called the Dragon Slayer. What a thrill that is. Fontana...

Greeted by Karen and Ronnie, two friendly faces with warm dry towels upon entering the Tapoco Lodge motorcycle pavilion was our first impression. Our motorcycle journey was a wet one but with those towels in hand and a golf cart ride to the main lodge and we knew we were in for a fantastic visit. We relaxed from day one and enjoyed our time at Tapoco more than words can say.. The local roads were awesome even in damp conditions as we encountered rain daily. Having Tapoco as our base it was comforting knowing where we were coming back home too. The constant shining stars were and are the staff, let me rephrase, the "entire" staff making the incredible Tapoco Lodge stand out amongst the rest! The meals are second to none. The mattresses and bedding are some of the finest available. From top to bottom, we give Tapoco " Two Thumbs Up - Way Up! " 10 of 10 The history, the environment, the grounds, the facilities, the Lodge as a whole are incredibly beautiful and private. If you give Tapoco a visit, you will come again, we are. We are already sending colleagues, friends, family and anyone we meet on the road. Enjoy! And thanks Karen and Ronnie and the entire staff at Tapoco for making our vacation spectacular!
