“A terrific find in a beautiful area.”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

My wife and I have stayed in the Robbinsville area many times over the years, but this was our first visit to the Historic Tapoco Lodge. It won’t be our last visit. The place is amazing on all dimensions.

1. The people. The owners, Ronnie and Teri, are down-to-earth, friendly, more helpful than it is possible to imagine, and a pleasure to chat with. The general manager, Karen, is a bundle of energy and seems to be everywhere doing what needs to be done to make the place run smoothly. All of the staff were superb.
2. The food. Ann does a marvelous job of making breakfast to order for the guests. Eggs, omelets (including a great vegetable omelet), bacon, sausage, fresh fruit, juice, French toast, and various specials. Dinner in the Jasper’s restaurant was excellent all three nights that we ate there. The chef served excellent staples such as filet mignon and trout, but also had specials (e.g., a superb braised short ribs with red cabbage and mashed potatoes). The side vegetables were well-prepared and very tasty. The “amuse bouches” and the soups and salads were first-rate. Best of all the portions were large. We never had room for dessert. I should mention that I am lactose-intolerant. They handled it superbly and came up with delicious alternatives whenever necessary.
3. The drinks. There is a small bar that is very comfortable and that has an excellent selection of bourbons, scotches, and other liquor. There are three micro-brewed beers on tap. The wine list is small, but well chosen and at a good price point.
4. The place. It is immaculate. The housekeeping staff keep the place sparkling clean. The bed is very comfortable, and is well appointed with good linens. The towels were also very nice. There are lots of comfortable places to be in the Lodge itself, including a patio overlooking the river as well as a firepit that is lit each night. We stayed in the Rhododendron Suite and were quite happy with our choice. We looked at some of the other rooms—they also looked very nice.
5. The activities: There are hiking trails on the property and others nearby in the Smokies. There are lakes nearby as well. We hiked a lot, but also took an afternoon guided kayak tour on Lake Santeetlah with Karen. It was a wonderful experience.

In short, everyone was extremely helpful and accommodating. The Historic Tapoco Lodge is a great choice and should be the first choice for anyone staying in the area.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a nice view of the river. The Evergreen room is on the first floor and easily acces...

The location is absolutely beautiful-if you like the mountains and rocky flowing rivers. The owners and entire staff are like a family working together who treated us royally, helping us find things to do in the area. The rooms are lovely and accommadating -you must try the suite with the hot tub. We especially enjoyed hanging out in the large sitting room looking out over the grounds and river.. You will have to experience a stay at Topoco Lodge to appreciate what we are trying to describe. You must visit nearby Santeetlah Lake.

This is a great place for food and atmosphere and so close to the Tail of the Dragon.
An interesting and unique part of the country that is definitely worth a visit.
Friendly helpful staff, clean rooms and great food, we will definitely be going back for another visit very soon.

Nestled in a valley near the Little Tennessee and Cheoah Rivers rests this hidden treasure known as the Tapoco Lodge. And what a treasure it is! Since coming here on business trips I've fallen in love with this paradise. It's one of the most relaxing places I've ever visited. Further, when we're here to do business with our company, the owners and staff are so accommodating that it creates an elegant and comfortable setting where we can focus our energies on the matters at hand. Likewise, the lodge is a charming and romantic get-away for a couple or family. In my book, the Tapoco Lodge is a stunning five star accommodation for anyone who desires a haven for retreat. Do yourself or your group a favor and go!

Room Tip: Every room is wonderful!

I have now had the pleasure of staying at the Topoco Lodge twice for a weekend. Both times my wife and I received top notch service and wonderful meals. We love to stay in the rooms on the riverside so we can go to sleep and awaken to the sound of the river, but there is so much great natural stuff to do around there that it is unlikely you'll be spending too much time in your room and the staff are great at helping you find things to do, even one year giving us tickets to a local show that they'd received.

Thanks for returning to the lodge again this year, and we hope this becomes a tradition. We all really enjoyed you both during your visit and it is always great to catch up from the last visit. That was a great group of people we had that weekend, and hope all can get back together in the future. Making new friends, enjoying old friends, and introducing new ones is what it is all about. Good luck and see you all soon.

Thanks for returning again this year to the lodge. We really enjoyed having you and the dinner was really a lot of fun, and so were the fire pit conversations. You are not that far away, so hope on the bike and come on over any time!
