“Great Place To Relax and Unwind”
Reviewed May 29, 2013

This is a wonderful place to spend a quiet weekend away from life's little annoyances. The staff is friendly, the property is nicely maintained, and the meal service has always been exceptional. i enjoy leaving my window open at bedtime and waking up to the birds singing their cheerful songs each morning. The outside terrace is a wonderful place to enjoy a cup of coffee while watching the sunrise or to see the moon's glow over the mountains.

My only asks for improvement would be better mattresses and wireless coverage. I know mattresses can be pretty personal. However, mine was bit harsh and uncomfortable. A better mattress and mattress cover/pad would remediate this concern. Wireless was hit or miss in room 2. I appreciate the lack of television and telephones in the room. I do enjoy reading and keeping up with the news - much of which I access using my tablet. Not having good coverage made it a little difficult to enjoy either.

Overall, i'd highly recommend Snowbird Mountain Lodge. It's shortcomings shouldn't persuade you to not experience its charm.

Room Tip: Room 2 is not too far from the front desk. You may hear the usual banter from time-to-time.

You will not regret a stay at this lovely mountain retreat. Located close to the Nantahala National Forest, the Cherokee National Forest, and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, there are endless activities to engage in. One of the best is driving along and hiking the trails off the Cherohala Skyway. But if you would rather relax and read a good book, this is the place to be. The food is yummy (best word I can think of to describe it). And, the price is reasonable. What more could one ask for...

My husband and I spent 4 nights/5 days at Snowbird for my nephew's wedding. Although not specifically geared up for weddings, the Staff worked with us to create a magical dinner for 27 wedding guests. The service was excellent and the food divine!! . . . And that was just the dinner!! Thank you for making it so special!!

Now for the Lodge -- what a treat to stay a Snowbird! The views were magnificent. Viewing spots are easily accessible so you can see the sun rise and and set. The library is well stocked so no need to bring a book!! You can sit inside by the fireplace or outside on the various porches for hours just relaxing or reading. Of course, there are a multitude of trails that can be explored, too. Birders paradise!!

We were in Wolf Cottage #1, which had its own jacuzzi and fireplace. It's very secluded and surrounded by trees so you feel like you're staying in your own treehouse!!! We had very cool weather so slept with the windows open. We woke to a variety of bird sounds!! Delightful!! Well appointed bathroom though I wasn't crazy about the 2 steps up into the bathtub/shower.

Next time we go, we will stay in the Chestnut House, a newer addition to Snowbird Lodge. Although more expensive, the rooms are larger and lighter with walk-in shower, and no steps.

Our compliments to Sarah, the chef, Shea, the sous chef, and all of the wait staff; Butch, the bartender; and Katrina and April, front desk. You made us feel like family!!!

We got lucky as we were there for the Memorial Day BBQ with Bluegrass music - sensational!!

Must take time to drive the Cherohala Skyway. The Lodge provides you with a picnic lunch so you can stop at any of the well marked viewing/picnic spots and enjoy!! Also, take time to visit the Joyce Kilmer Forest. Hiking trails of all degrees of difficulty are available.

We're already talking about our return to Snowbird!!!

Room Tip: Wolf Cottage has 2 separate guest rooms, both very secluded. Must be able to climb stairs. Rooms in...

This was our first trip to Snowbird, and it made for a wonderful 40th anniversary celebration. The staff, service, food, atmosphere, and setting were excellent. It's proximity to Joyce Kilmer National Forest and the Cherohala Byway made it very easy to enjoy the beauty of the surrounding mountains. The grounds of the Lodge were also enjoyable and we spent as much time exploring that as we did the nearby mountain trails. The lodge offers rooms that are beautiful and well-appointed, and capture the ambiance of the 1940s, with great views of the mountains. There are also rooms outside the lodge that are a little more updated, with private decks and hot tubs. The lodge's porch and rocking chairs, fireside bar, and comfortable great room make it a cozy place to hang out. We cannot brag enough on the quality and quantity of the food, as well as the attention given by the staff. Our stay was so pleasant we booked a return visit for the fall! We are happily recommending it to all of our friends.

My husband and I just enjoyed a fantastic, relaxing stay at Snowbird while celebrating our anniversary. The view is gorgeous from every, single location on the property. The landscaping and design of the lodge through the many incarnations in its history is now "spot on," marrying the best of the past with updated amenities and facilities that blend well with the environment. The food is amazing as is the knowledgable staff! The lunch packs provided every day for our hikes was a nice touch and Leon Bates was a great guide for our wildflower hike (Falls Branch is a must see!). There are so many awesome places to walk on the property itself or to just stop and hold hands, gazing at the serene beauty that plays out like a wonderful movie from morning to night. Topping off our days in a private hot tub with wonderful wine in Wolfe Cottage .... okay, there are too many work days until our next visit. I know this sounds effusive but you really owe it to yourself to slow down and visit Snowbird Mtn Lodge!

We spent a weekend in May 2013 attending the wedding of our son at Snowbird Mountain Lodge. It was the best wedding we ever attended. Though you might think we are the prejudiced parents of the groom, you would be mistaken. So many others who attended commented with those same words, that this wedding was the best ever. The staff at Snowbird were very attentive, the food was outstanding, the ambiance relaxed and intimate. Though I have been to other weddings where the appetizers are good, usually the main course is mediocre. Not at Snowbird. Every dish from appetizers to desert was fabulous. My sister said it was the first wedding she ever attended in which she was served a gourmet meal. Everyone raved about the food. I have thought about what aspects made the wedding so very special. We had stayed at Snowbird in the past for a relaxing hiatus from our busy lives. The Lodge staff cannot be outdone for attention to detail and comfort. The morning of the wedding, our entire group went for a hike in the area. As the temperature was cooler than we had expected, the Lodge had jackets some guests borrowed for the hike. Bag lunches actually were provided in small backpacks for hiking comfort. For the wedding, the several dining areas, main lounge, porches, and bar room allowed for ease of mingling and conversation. Spending the entire weekend, not just an evening, with the wedding guests made for a very intimate experience. We had the ceremony in the garden area which was beautiful with many gorgeous pictures for a lifetime of memories. Our thanks and gratitude to Robert Rankin, owner, and Sarah Zell, executive chef, Shea Blalock sous chef, April at the concierge desk and the entire staff for making it seem as though our families arranged the best wedding ever.

This was our second visit to Snowbird, and it exceeded the wonderful memories of our first visit. The accommodations, the food, the service, the attitude; all were exceptional and combined for a delightful three day stay. I have no hesitation in fully recommending this lodge to my closest of friends.
