“Our little place in the mountains”

Truly wonderful place we've been visiting for about 15 years. We try to be here at least twice a year - preferably three times. Restful and relaxing if you want it. Great for outdoor activities if you want that. Excellent food - no worries about where you will eat for each meal. Views can't be beat - there's nothing like the color of the mountains with clouds tucked down in them. Laid back!

Room Tip: Rooms 18 and 19 are large. 19 has good view of mountains, 18 has view of wooded area.

We were looking for a couple of days away from the craziness that life can sometimes bring. We found just that & more at the Snowbird Mountain Lodge. The accommodations, views, food & staff were wonderful. We came home feeling refreshed, relaxed & rejuvenated and look forward to a time when we can go back again!

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms facing the mountains have an awesome view. We stayed in Rm 16 which was fine beca...

We always look forward to our annual retreat with friends to Snowbird Mountain Lodge. This is our 8th year! Views, food, staff, ambiance--everything--is terrific. My husband and I also try to make an additional trip each year just to "get away" in the winter months. We have recommended it to several friends and they have all enjoyed their stays and some have returned again and again.

I did not stay at Snowbird but wish I had. The main lodge was very tastefully furnished. It was quiet and inviting. We drove up from Santeetlah Lake and the drive was very pleasant. We were with another couple who were celebrating their 33rd anniversary. The dinner is with a fixed price and for this price you get to choose from a soup, appetizer, main course and dessert. We found everything we ordered to be delicious. I ordered the duck and I can't remember the last time I had such a tender duck. Stay around for the sunset by sitting outside. Very memorable indeed.

We just returned from two delightful nights at the Snowbird Mountain Lodge and had a fantastic time. The place is magical, the meals better than delicious, the mountains beautiful, and so much to do (canoeing, hiking, driving the Cherohala Skyway and the Tail of the Dragon, flyfishing, special classes are offered during each month--photography,pottery,etc-- Each day a lunch is packed for you to enjoy as you go on your adventure of the day, whatever it may be. We certainly plan a return visit and I would highly recommend the Snowbird Mountain Lodge . You will very much like the wonderful staff, the owner and his two adorable daughters and also the three rescue dogs who share the property . Susan M.

My husband and I had a rare opportunity to get away for a weekend without the kids or pets! We decided we wanted "quiet" and cooler mountain temps. We decided upon the Snowbird Mountain lodge based on Tripadvisor reviews; we had a wonderful time!!

The Pros: The room was VERY nice! We had the "Silverbell" room in the Chestnut lodge. It is on the 'end' of the building, so was very, very quiet. We had an extremely comfortable King Size bed; comfy blankets and sheets. There was a jacuzzi tub in the bathroom (with views of the mountain if you like!), a steam shower and a fireplace. It was 90 degrees this weekend, so we didn't indulge with the fireplace. The deck on this room is HUGE with a hot tub (which we did not use); and gorgeous views of the mountains. There are loads of books available to read (in the room and in the lodge). There is no TV or phones; but there is spot to plug in your MP3 or Ipod plus there are CD's in the room if you want music. There is a refrigerator, coffee maker and comfy robes available. Our room was at the entrance of the Sunrise point; a short walk and you are on a gorgeous deck overlooking the lake/mountains. All along the walk there are places to stop (even one with a bench swing). Thoughtful touches like flashlights, bug spray and binoculars were very nice!! Staff in the lodge were incredibly helpful. Canoeing equipment was available and you could drive to the launch site (just 2 1/2 miles away). There are also bikes and kayaks to use if you like. MANY hiking trails in the area, so this seemed to be the key activity for most. There are walking sticks and umbrellas right outside your door, again, very thoughtful items that you might need are available. The wine selection was quite nice and we had a bottle of Pinot Grigio for just $19. The lodge has a nice living room with lots of games and books; tables for Chess, Checkers and Backgammon; plus binoculars so you can view the mountains/bird watch. There is a VERY nice bar area (small, but nice) and Sandra took great care of us; also an extensive wine list at the bar. There is also cold pop, coffee, hot tea and small snacks available in the lodge

The Cons: The food was just ok. We were very pleased with breakfast (Croquet Madame on day 1 and a Mediterranean Frittata on day 2.. yum!) but the packed lunches left something to be desired. You place your order during dinner time for your packed lunch the next day; you pick those up at breakfast time from the fridge so you have your lunch at the ready during your hiking trips. The problem is the bread on the sandwiches and wraps gets really soggy by lunchtime, so it was gross to eat unfortunately. There was no other option for lunch that we noted. Dinner was good, but nothing spectacular that evening. I had the trout (cooked well but bland) with mashed potatoes = good. My husband had the ribeye and the flavoring was very good, but the steak was a little tough. The wedge potates were very good. We had dessert; and honestly it felt as if these were purchased from Costco. Lastly, it's pricey. Yes, it includes all your meals, but for two nights in the Silverbell; $380/nite plus the services charges, a few glasses of wine, and it all adds up. We spent ~$1,000 for two nights. There are less expensive rooms available for around $200/nite in the main lodge, so we may try that next time.

Suggestions: A rocking chair on the Silverbell room would be amazing.. the deck is just crying out for a rocking chair :) Find a way to still deliver the packed lunches since no one is really around anyway (packed lunches are a great idea), but perhaps you don't put the sandwiches 'together', just put the ingredients in the bag? Home made desserts at dinnertime? I really missed having Iced tea available; perhaps you could have iced tea instead of hot tea at the lodge counter during the summer?

One more thing; this is in a DRY COUNTY; so don't try to buy alcohol in town, you won't find it. The hotel bar serves drinks; we had a good pour of wine for around $10-12/glass.

Room Tip: Notes: - The rate is "all inclusive" for meals; so while its a pricey resort, it does in...

This is a remarkable place. Nestled in the mountains of North Carolina with all the charm of Grandma's home in the hills. It's not a B&B ... It's a B& B, L &D. Three scrumptious meals a day, with lunch being packed as a picnic. The grounds are beautiful, the view breathtaking and the service is only out-done by the fantasitic food! This is a place to dress casually and hike or canoe or bike-ride all day. Or, just sit on the swings and read a book. We have 2 regrets ... 1) That we didn't discover this gem sooner and 2) That we only stayed 2 nights. We will certainly be back! CFitz in NC
