“Krispy Kreme Challenge”
Reviewed February 8, 2010

A large group of us came down to Raleigh for the Krispy Kreme Challenge. We all stayed at this Marriott. The hotel was able to put all our rooms together which was very nice. The beds were comfortable and the pillows all had various stiffness so you could choose the one that suited you. The kids used the whirlpool and had fun. Since we had to eat a dozen doughnuts at the race, we didn't get the breakfast. Noon checkout was great because we were able to come back and take a shower before heading home. Renovations were

The drawbacks were that the couches were not very comfortable at all. Also the rooms only had hard-wired internet in the rooms, but it appeared as though they were working on pulling networking cables in the lobby so that might be changing soon.

PF Changs is right down the street and we had an outstanding time there.

stayed here since coming late into Raleigh Durham Airport, RDU, got the room via Priceline for $ 81 with fees. requested 2 beds or king, got a queen. room was basic, smaller size, no parking so had to walk quite a ways, when i got into reception, they said i could park another someone else. ok. normal price was $129 a night, way too high, for no breakfast, be it simple or not.

I will make it short and sweet... The hotel is great! Very close to the interstates, downtown Raleigh and shopping centers. Our room was a king size bed. Very clean, comfortable and the room smelled good. We had a patio.... I actually couldn't find anything wrong with the room. The staff was great even at 3am when I went to the front desk to ask for a cup of hot water to make tea the lady at the desk made me a half pot of hot water and was very nice about it. There is a small fitness center. They have 2 computers and printers (business center). I believe they have free wi-fi in the rooms. The outside pool looked very clean. Breakfast was $10.98 simple buffet or you could order off the menu. We will stay at this hotel again.

Just stayed for one night and found the hotel was close to everything and in very quiet & safe location. The check -in was quick and the room was very nice. No complaints.

We went for a concert one weekend and were just looking for a place to stay overnight. This hotel is clean and the staff is very courteous. We got into town a couple hours early, but when I put a call into the hotel, they said they had our room already ready. We were glad to be able to check in almost 2 hours early. The hotel is also in a great location, near the highway, but I found you couldn't hear traffic. The sliding glass door worked as a great sound barrier. There are also lots of restaurants in driving distance. The Crabtree area is not far and has lots of shopping.

The room was very clean and spacious enough for our overnight visit. It was only two of us, but there was a pullout sofa as well. The internet worked well and was easy and fast. The bed and pillows were comfortable. We have stayed in Marriott's with more comfortable beds and linens in the past, but this bed was very comfortable and we sleep great. The noise is also very minimal. We actually had an end room right neat to the elevator and ice machine, which made me nervous at first, but, suprisingly, it wasn't very loud. There was a little noise from people having a conversation as they walked by, but nothing to complain about.

The pool area is very nice. They have nice chairs and tables with umbrellas to sit by and read a book or just relax. My only complaint is that there are not very many lounge chairs by the pool (we sat around the pool at a table, because there were none left). But, other than that, the general area was nice.

We also ate at the breakfast buffet. It was pretty good. Nothing over the top. Just your standard hot buffet breakfast (eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage etc). We had a 1 free breakfast, so we only had to purchase one ($10.95/pp). If we didn't have the free breakfast included in the rate, we probably would not have eaten there. The price seems a little high for the value of the buffet.

Lastly, for those who work out on vacation, the gym was very small. We went to work out and both treadmills were taken, leaving us with only 1 elliptical and pretty much no room to lift the free weights they had. But, no big deal, we sat out by the pool and read.

All in all, for the price we paid (military disc), it was well worth the stay.

I'm a platinum member and business traveler. I was very happy with my stay here, and this hotel compares favorably with other Marriott hotels. I was upgraded to a suite by the nice gentleman at the front desk. The hotel is right by the interstate, but you hear no traffic. The interior is very nice and comfortable. Everything about the room was above average.

The only downside is that you may have to drive in bad traffic to find a good restaurant.

My brother booked a couple of rooms when our family visited Raleigh for a college graduation. The location is convenient, just off the 440 beltline on a hill overlooking Wake Forest Road. Plenty of restaurants north of the hotel on Wake Forest Road. One block south is Six Forks Road, which also has plenty of restaurants and shopping in the nearby North Hills area.

The hotel itself is a bit worn, but generally in okay condition. The rooms were quiet and spacious. We were able to book a handicapped room for my Mom, with a specially-configured bathroom. My bed was a bit overused and not as comfortable as I would have liked.

Parking was adequate. We didn't have a chance to take advantage of the pool or breakfast. I didn't handle the check-in, so can't comment personally on the front desk.

Overall, I would consider staying here again, if I needed to be in the area. But I would probably also take a look at some of the nearby competitiors before making a final decision.
