“This is THE place for hot dogs in Raleigh.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2013

George and his mom run an old school hot dog and soda shop like you rarely see these days. Friendly , small , cozy and truly a local place. If you get offended by the no catsup thing - then shut up and go eat at snoopy's the other local place that is no where near as good a hot dog or just bring your own. Yu ALWAYS get the owners to serve you - not a high school kid. Ask George why he doesn't serve catsup with hot dogs. You may get a sarcastic answer. But it's all in good fun. The hot dogs are awesome. The people that serve the food are wonderful, hard working people and the atmosphere you just can't beat. If you want to get A pulse on local Raleigh happenings this is a great place to go. I have eaten here well over 100 times and sat beside former governor Jim Hunt, as well as many other LOCAL celebrities. This is a must go to place in Raleigh if you are visiting. Especially if you want to talk about NC State.

When you walk in, say hello to George when you open the door going In to what feels like your moms house and say hey!

Look up on the walls when you visit too. Man vs food show etc.

If you don't like tight quarters. Get yours to go...

“Ketchup? Nope.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 29, 2013

Food here is fine, but the 'No ketchup' thing really annoys me. I refuse to eat at a place where a simple condiment is refused to patrons. Don't ask for it because you will be almost ridiculed for having done so.

“Best hotdogs ever”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 16, 2013

And one of the most unique restaurants ever. The restaurant opened in 1942(?) and was originally the front porch of a house, which was enclosed. As a result, it's long and narrow and can seat around 15 people as long as your legs are short. But people line up out the door for the dogs, which are roasted or really roasted. The chili is killer and you can also get mustard, slaw and onions. Asking for catsup will get you a stern look and a lecture from George or his mom. No Catsup!

They also have soft drinks in glass bottles, and killer homemade baclava. If you don't want to wait for a seat, you can join the long line of take out customers.

“Best hotdogs.....period”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 29, 2013 via mobile

This place is very tiny and tucked away on a side street, but I wouldn't haven't any other way. The hotdogs are absolutely amazing and the chili makes it. After eating these dogs with their homemade chili no other dogs will satisfy you.

“A local treasure”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 22, 2013

After living in Raleigh for more than 15 years I finally headed to the Roast Grill one day for lunch. I made sure to have cash on hand and got there soon after it opened in order to get a seat, because there aren't many! I ordered 2 dogs with chili, onion and mustard (can't get ketchup in this place). It was so good I quickly finished, ordered 2 more to go and left my seat for those in line. If you are looking for a neat, local joint with great dogs, and chili then look no farther. But get there early, bring cash and don't ask for ketchup! Can't wait to go back and take my son!
