“Terrific Place for Lunch”
Reviewed July 28, 2014 via mobile

This restaurant located on a side street (thus the name) is located in the historic Oakwood neighborhood a block away from the Governor's Mansion. In an old building that is showing its age but that is appropriate for this restaurant and the atmosphere.

Large selection of unique sandwiches all homemade with a great selection of sides. Prices are very reasonable. And they give you a lot of food for the money. Desserts are all homemade. The Lemon Bars are to die for. Good attentive service. If you are in Raleigh near downtown. This is a great place to go.

“I wanted to keep this place for myself to enjoy but.....................................”
Reviewed July 23, 2014

I decided to share it with others! ha
Went to this little hidden gem two times in two days for lunch. The place is very cute-sits on a corner in the Oakwood historical neighborhood. The lunch menu is extensive-salads-sandwiches and a few specials like Quiche-etc. The food was all very good-reasonably priced, and the one waitstaff gal was very lovely. Nice place to go with ...... anyone-date-gal pals-husband! Nice change from the high ceiling's and high noise levels of all the latest places to eat-simple and calm-really relaxing! Quaint!

“Consistently Great Food”
Reviewed June 17, 2014

This was our second visit to the Side St. Cafe and it was equally as good as our last visit. They have a large assortment of sandwiches - we LOVE their chicken salad, but all are excellent. Our party of four all enjoyed what they ordered.

The building is old, but we think it adds to the character and atmosphere while you dine. If you are in the Downtown area before the theater plan to eat here.

FYI - They only accept cash and local checks.

“Casual and fun”
Reviewed April 15, 2014

It's strictly a sandwich shop, but they are like nothing you will find anywhere else. The whimsical names and color to the informal setting and the friendly staff, but be warned --- they are enormous and you will want to save space for their "to-die-for" desserts. It's all very reasonable priced and in a comfortable setting in Oakwods, the historical residential area of downtown Raleigh. Be prepared to take your time; this is not the place for a hurried lunch.

“Always Good”
Reviewed February 16, 2014

Tucked away in a downtown neighborhood near the Governors Mansion - a great lunch spot. Unique sandwiches and great salads and soups. My favorite is Vance's Mushroom Desire. Fantastic homemade desserts - my favorite is the lemon chess pie. Interior is charming ang unique. Seethe old coca-cola sign on exterior side. Mary Lou Wooten is the owner. A great girl transplanted in Raleigh from Wdgecombe County.
