Went there for an early grazing dinner at the 5pm opening time and sat at the bar with some friends which was great as the place filled up to capacity very quickly, so get there early or about 7:30 if you want a chance of a seat. Bar staff were very helpful in suggesting food & wine, including a tasting glass before a bottle choice. Oyster voted best of the evening was the Chesapeake and also the Lump Crab Cakes were delicious. Wine list was good & very reasonably priced supplemented by a large beer selection.

Consistently high level service and quality dining. Have taken business groups, family and friends to 42nd Street many times over the years. Dined there again on January 22. Shared a dozen blue points and fried calamari as an appetizer. Oysters were large and fresh. Calamari was lightly breaded with fresh marinara and grated Parmesan. Fresh blackened mahi mahi was hot, well seasoned and oversized. Shrimp and crab meat pasta alfredo was served in a thick cream sauce with lumps of fresh crab and large shrimp. White paper table cloths and old school wood trim provide a classic feel. 42nd Street is a loud, lively enjoyable dining experience. Great for a full meal or a couple dozen at the oyster bar.

In September, I hosted a regional meeting at this restaurant. They were very accommodating; excerpted three offerings and crafted a menu for our group exclusively. The food was exceptional. Although the noise level was a bit high during our dinner, overall we were very satisfied with our group placement and food offerings. We will probably book with them again in March 2014.

Had the pleasure of eating at 42nd St in Raleigh (not in the airport but in downtown Raleigh) right after the New Year. Service was fantastic, food was aesome. Clam Chowder was full of clams not just a few pieces. Best hush puppies. Everyone at our table enjoyed their meal. Will definitly be returning for another round. Can also get reservatoins on Open Table.

Probably the best seafood I've had in years, I had the shrimp and scallops "Norfolk" style. Both were very succulent and the scallops sweet and juicy. Service was prompt and very attentive even with our large party. Great atmosphere that captures the feel of old Raleigh and the original restaurant. The only thing keeping this from being a 5 star rating was the desserts were lackluster and clearly institutional which is a shame given the many bakeries in the area.
