“A landmark and an institution”
Reviewed April 25, 2013

Country cooking and atmosphere at its best. Breakfast and lunch only as they close at 2:00 PM. Our most recent visit was for breakfast and included eggs, sausage, ham, french toast, and pancakes; all of which were excellent. The pancakes are enormous so be careful ordering more than one. (Sadly, today's was a little underdone in the middle but still very tasty). We've visited in the past for lunch and their mid-day offerings are just as good, especially the home made desserts. They can get busy at peak hours and service suffers a little. Grab some friends and go!

“The best breakfast lunch around”
Reviewed April 8, 2013

OMG this place is a throwback to old school meat and three worth the walk to the market place if you love homemade biscuts and banana pudding. All part of the meal.

“An Unusual Spot To Eat”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

During a 4 hour visit to Raleigh, my wife and I checked out the City Market area and decided to have lunch at "Big Ed's". Talk about ambiance, this place is loaded with stuff, antiques and junk, from top to bottom. The menu is filled with something for everyone. Meals come with a drink, entree with a choice of 2 sides, bread and a choice of a couple of different deserts. Service was excellent, food was pretty good. Judging by the full house they were serving, as well as the large number of take-out orders we saw, I guess this place is well-liked for a decent, reasonably priced meal. Try it, lots of fun and good food.

“Great Breakfast”
Reviewed March 28, 2013

Big Eds is great for breakfast. It serves a tasty meal with a friendly smile. You'll find standard breakfast items along with sides like rice with butter. I loved that option and it was fun eating something I don't generally associate with breakfast.

“Great Breakfast”
Reviewed March 18, 2013

We stopped by Big Ed's on a weekday just after the lunch hour, looking for a nice lunch. What we got was an excellent breakfast - solid french toast, a great bacon and cheddar omelet, and rich creamy grits. The ambiance is excellent, the employees were very charming and helpful. I love places like Big Ed's.
