“An excellent choice”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2014

This is a hands-down elegant setting upstairs which serves well-prepared food presented by a well-trained, knowledgeable waitstaff. The wine choices were quite good (Perrier-Jouet by the glass is a plus).

“Very grown up”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 12, 2014

The food and service here was very very good. Much attention paid to detail. The wine was superb. Can't recall the name but it was a white with green apple undertones. Fabulous. This is an excellent date setting. Will return.

“It's an experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2014

Food and service are outstanding. Keep in mind the menu is going to be limited as they prefer a little done well rather than a great deal done imperfectly. Splendid wine selection; our cocktails and wine were both wonderful. We shared mussels for a first course and they were superb. Entrees were duck breast and their fresh catch, both done and delivered to perfection. Crème brulee for dessert and we were absolutely content. Parking can be a challenge so bring your patience and be careful you don't turn right out of the parking lot in the rear. If you do you'll be going the wrong way on a one way street.

“Much more than a tavern”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 8, 2014

If you eat upstairs in the restaurant you have only one menu. Much better option is to eat downstairs in the tavern- which is really a classy restaurant- and you can make food choices from both tavern and restaurant menus. Excellent service, innovative food which is mostly locally sourced, beautiful presentation, unique flavor combinations in both dinner and dessert choices. One of the best dining experiences we've had in the US

“Beautiful location and Excellent Food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 25, 2014

While in Raleigh for my husband’s business conference we were fortunate enough to stumble across Second Empire. We ate in the restaurant section, and it was unlike anything we have ever experienced. This restaurant is in a converted mansion and it is stunning! Our server was fantastic, and the food was first rate! We braved torrential rains to try this place, and we had absolutely no regrets.
