Description: Located at the corner of Wilmington and Davie Streets in the heart of downtown Raleigh, bu•ku is a local restaurant that tells a global story. The name "bu•ku" itself is an international slang twist on the phrase, "Merci, beaucoup" meaning, "Thank you very much." Inspired by the pushcarts of street vendors across the globe, our chefs harvest an array of unique and distinct flavors and present them authentically, in a virtual kaleidoscope of plates. The common link: these are foods that people love. Working within different regional traditions, our menu brings together complex and flavorful dishes that have been honed over generations. Foods like Polish pierogis, Colombian arepas, and Thai barbecue prawns served in a banana leaf with green papaya salad can be found on the street corners of Warsaw, Bogota, and Bangkok. We strive to convey the immediate thrill a traveler feels eating foods like these as they first cross over the cart and exchange hands into the urban setting.

went with a group early before the symphony and very happily surprised at the array of culinary delights at Buku. Note: since most are small plate/tapas type not ideal for sharing unless you order a large multiple of small plates. But that is the nature of small plate dining and diners typically know this. As for the taste - fuhgeddaboudit!! the flavors and combinations of flavors on each dish were exquisitely plated and delivered. I had the duck large plate on the recommendation of Justin our server which was INCREDIBLE. Presentation was also top shelf. I will go back to Buku multiple times just for this one dish alone!! Seriously! Everything server recommended was spot on -- definitely take his recommendations!! The whole place is well designed and a great feel to the restaurant. Will frequent it regularly and hopefully it is a place that will be around Raleigh downtown for a long long time. Some comments indicate pricy? didn't find it particularly over priced but adequate for the quality and service you are getting. Go there now!!

We've eaten at Bu Ku three times and each time the service and food have been outstanding. The service is unobtrusive, but they're always there when you need them. Saturday, we were there with a party of seven. The adults ordered a total of eleven dishes and all were excellent. We were concerned that we had a 5 year old and a 10 year old and Bu Ku does not have a kids' menu, but they were very accomodating to the childrens' tastes and made a cheese quesadilla for one and a plain burger for the other. One of my favorite restaurants, I look forward to my next visit.

Buku's theme is "global street food", but they missed the mark on their menu. First of all, street food should not be expensive....$12 for four dumplings....you have got to be kidding! Their menu is confusing. They have a small dish selection which are appetizer size and are good for maybe two people. Then there is the large dish side which has no "street food" theme at all. I thought the large dish was just a bigger sized portion of the small dish, but they offered totally different dishes.

They need to rethink their theme and keep their menu simple. Just focus on a few street food dishes and offer small or large sizes of these. Then they can get a few dishes right instead of missing the mark on a whole bunch of dishes.

We were not impressed at all, and will never go back. If you are a true foodie, stay away.

Visited BUKU for dinner and ordered an assortment of 8 different small dishes. Average price of each hors devours which is barely enough for one person was about $10. So I blew $100 on 8 small dishes. The empanadas were cold, and the flavor was less than average. This place is basically a front to launder money for the mob. Save your money and go to Bida Manda's Laotian cuisine.
