Bida Manda Restaurant is showing the Southeast that Laotian food can compete with anything. This beautifully decorated space provides a peaceful setting for truly wonderfully flavorful food redolent of the best that Indochinese cuisine has to offer. Best dishes that I've tried include the green papaya salad and the pork belly soup. The food is highly flavored - for some, it would be "spicy," but don't be scared off. Nothing is crazy hot as I can like it. The menu, designed by the brother/sister owners and their Laotian chef, is well balanced with strongest emphasis on lovely, fragrant Laotian dishes. It also has a lovely bar with a large variety of specialty cocktails. It's one of my new strong favorites for downtown eating!
