Family members recommended Orchid: they know that my husband can eat his own weight in sushi :-) The restaurant is cute and atmospheric and the staff attentive and
Upon entering you are given two paper menus - one for sushi and sashimi and the other for the "kitchen" menu.
The kitchen menu has a selection on small plates of a variety of tidbits such as spring rolls, tempura shrimp, dumplings, edamame, etc. Most of these items that we tried were excellent but not all: the "okonomiyaki" is nothing like "real" okonomiyaki in Japan (but then it never is) and the shumai (shrimp dumplings) are fried rather than steamed.
The soups are good. My husband had several bowls of miso.
The sushi and sashimi menu is pretty extensive and everything we tried was very good.
I tried one or two new kinds of sashimi that I also liked but didn't try others that I was pretty sure I wouldn't like.
Hubby and I will be returning again in the near future. It's a bit of a trek from Chapel Hill but certainly worth the effort :-)
