Owner description: Yates Mill is the last operating, water-powered gristmill in NC's capital county. The 18th century mill was restored, and the 174-acre park developed, through a partnership among the County of Wake, Yates Mill Associates, and NC State University. The park is open 361 days per year, from 8 am to sunset. The visitor center with its 2,200 square feet of exhibit space is open 8:30 am to 5 pm. The historic mill is open for guided tours Mar-Nov each year for public tours on weekends (fee: $3-5) and also by appointment on weekdays for organized groups.

The walking paths in the park are shady and relaxing. The visitor center has a lot of information about mills and how they work in addition to information about the history of the area. There are many nice places to take good photographs of the wildlife and the surroundings.

I went with a meet up group and really enjoyed this place. I am a history fan, so this really appeals to me. We enjoyed a guided tour and I learned a lot about the mill and the area. There is a historic tour in Raleigh that I did not know about until this tour. Everyone was very friendly and helpful and I found the entire tour very interesting. I think families and couples would enjoy as well. the mill is beautiful and we also enjoyed the walk around the water.

This is a very scenic place to walk and there are many opportunities for taking great pictures. We have never taken the tour but we have just walked around ourselves and taken our time soaking everything in.

This is a really nicely done park on the south side of Raleigh, and even on a wet, windy January day it was a fun place to visit. It's clearly designed to be an educational site, not only with the working water mill, but also to showcase flora and fauna around the mill pond. Three walks, all about one mile each (and despite the park's description, the "ridge walk" is not strenuous). At the right time of year, the park would be teaming with birds or glorious with color. A good place to run the kids when you need to burn off some of their energy, and they might learn something, too.

Was a wonderful place to spend the afternoon as a family. There are several walking trails and birding. Took some beautiful pictures of birds, old buildings, the mill, waterfall, farm equipment, etc. Inside, there is a little museum. Kids can play dress up from the olden days as well. Staff was extremely pleasant and helpful.
