We went when a very large group (which we were part of) was having a special dinner on the 2nd of 2 nights. We belong to a group called The Produce Box and they arranged for 2 nights of dinners emphasizing local foods. The restaurant had special menus for our group with 2 choices for each course. Naturally my wife & I had 1 of each, ate half & switched. Something we have done for years. Everything we had was outstanding. There was a wine tasting at the time with wines from the Childress Winery over close to lexington. Richard Childress from NASCAR fame. 4 wines that were all very good. We especially likes the number of relishes & other items that were available for tasting while you waited to be seated. The pimento cheese is excellant. They also have a few specialty olive oils & infused vinegars to taste & buy if you choose.

I've been here many times and the food is always top notch! The gingerbread banana pancakes are TO. DIE. FOR! The prices are great and the atmosphere is nice. Sometimes the service is a little slow but it's always with a smile. There is also a cute little gift shop area near the front of the restaurant that had neat gift ideas and local finds.

Relish used to be a bar (Buck's) and before that a restaurant (Simpson's). Simpson's had been around for a very long time. Walking into the place, you still see remnants of the old restaurant... It has all the old decor and from what I can remember, even the same carpeting! It also has an old musty smell. Definitely not conducive to eating yummy food.
Living around the corner, I was hoping it would be our new hangout on the weekends. But we can't stay very long in there without being creeped out. I just wish they would remodel the place, new carpeting is a good start!!! Its way too dark and dreary, like an old 80's restaurant. We hate to say this, but until the place is remodeled, and the smell is gone, we wont be patronizing Relish. Its a shame too, I really liked the food! The pimento cheese is my fav...

Couldn't decide where 8 gals could conveniently meet for lunch. Relish was recommend; weren't disappointed! Varied menu with lots of "electic" or what we would call "contemporary" choices. Fried avacado was on their "Test Kitchen" selections; hope it becomes permanent! Delicious "spins" on grilled cheese and mac 'n cheese. Shrimp 'n grits, fried green tomatoes and salads were all a hit. The nachos appetizer was more than 8 of us could finish! May need a little more wait staff and perhaps a little more attentive; no one ever checked to refill water glasses or other beverages; had to flag someone down; but it was busy. However, was no problem with 8 separate checks and no mixups! A cute little "pantry" with great gift ideas near hostess stand. Now want to try it for dinner; understand they have music there some nights! Was definitely a good choice for lunch with friends!
