“Great food and a great location”
Reviewed May 23, 2012

This restaurant was across the street from my hotel, and it came highly recommended by fellow conference participants. Good building - looks to be original brick on the inside, and we had a great table by the window. Our waitress was incredibly helpful, even giving suggestions. Then, Chef David Mao came by with soup samples to start, and it was outstanding. In fact, everything we had was great, from the stuffed eggplant to the half-fried dumplings to the filet and scallops. Yum!

“Much More Than Chinese”
Reviewed April 2, 2012

Stopped in with my wife for the first time this past weekend and it was great. My wife had the Hot & Sour Soup with Eggplant and I had the Crispy Wontons and Hunam Chicken. Outstanding! What a surprise - those people living around NC State are sure lucky to have such a great restaurant. Chef David Mao is friendly and knows his food. He puts a nice twist on some great standards and you can even watch him cook. We stopped in around 2pm and we can't wait to go back.

“Great, fresh, well priced meal”
Reviewed February 27, 2012

First time at David's. Loved the meal. You are given a shot class of ginger carrot soup when seated. Yummy! We ordered 3 small plates and one noodle dish. Everything was great. Service was prompt. We will go back!

“Delicious dumpling fun”
Reviewed January 29, 2012

David Mao's new establishment, David's Dumpling & Noodle Bar is energetic, modern and fun. A bit like an asian version of a small plates bar - that also has some great food.

David Mao is the former owner of the now closed Duck & Dumpling and his fans will be glad to hear that he brought the complex layered flavors with him to DDNB.
To start off, they serve a complimentary "taster" appetizer, on the night we went it was a sake cup serving of ginger carrot soup. It was velvety, there was the bite of the ginger which played nicely off of the sweetness of the carrot. Warm, welcoming and a good sign of what was yet to come.

We tried some veg/edamame dumplings which were amazing, a bit smokey, a little hint of heat, it had a very satisfying texture, formed like a patty and pan fried serviced with a soy ginger dipping sauce, a wonderful flavor disco in your mouth.

We also tried the Moo Shu tofu and mushrooms. The filling was tender, roasty with a little sweetness, the buns were proper, pillowy soft steamed buns that sopped up all that delicious sauce from the filling. It has been very disheartening, since moving to NC, the only wrapper I've been service with moo shu has been flour tortillas. So, to have the real, steamed buns served at DDNB of such high quality, it just raised the bar for moo shu for me, I'll never be able to go back to those tortillas again!

Service here was very nice. We went on a Saturday night, all tables were full and they were people waiting for a table. We grabbed a seat at the noodle bar where you can watch David make noodle dishes and order from the full menu as well.

We shared a small bottle of sake which DDNB has available chilled (the only way I drink good sake) and the meal was deemed wonderful. There is also an element of fun when you are eating dumplings, you share, you dip in sauces, it seems like a little party. We can't wait to come back again with more friends.

“Great Food, Great Value!”
Reviewed January 13, 2012

This is my second visit to David's Dumpling, and be assured there will be more! I have found this to be a wonderful alternative to the routine dining experience--and dining value that will end up costing you less than most area restaurants of similar ranking. David, the owner and chef is at the door to greet you, and makes the rounds to for a quick visit with the customers, bringing little treats for you to sample. Can you say yum! Asian flair, with lots of rice noodles and veggies, this is a very nice quiet place for dinner with family or your partner. We had dinner for four, two glasses of wine, and two desserts for the teens in the group; $85 including the tip! You can spend more at the Mellow Mushroom!!!! Just off NC State University's campus--go and enjoy!!!!
