My wife, son and I went to Chow recently for her birthday dinner. She chose it; she was in the mood for a sandwich or pizza, not a fancy dinner. She figured since Chow is run by the same company that runs two of our favorite N. Raleigh restaurants - the always reliable Vivace and Coquette - it would serve up good food but in a more casual, relaxed environment. Wrong on both counts. The dining room/bar area is cavernous and cold, and was incredibly noisy and crowded the night we were there (a Friday night). Unattended small children scurried back and forth past our table the entire time we were there (we were seated near the rear of the restaurant, near the pool table). Our table didn't have chairs with backs - we had backless bar stools which were not comfortable. The food offered no redemption for our discomfort. My wife's black bean veggie burger was so heavily loaded with jalapenos that she stopped eating it about 1/3 of the way thru. The pizzas that my son and I ordered had toppings that tasted none too fresh. We got take-home boxes but by the time we reached home - a 10-minute drive - all three of our stomachs were so queasy that we simply tossed the food in the trash.
