“Great hamburgers & Service!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 14, 2012

Decided to try this after reading the great reviews on Trip Advisor! I was alone so I sat at the bar. I ordered their fresh ground angus hamburger and fries it was on special for $6.50 since it was Wednesday. Normally it comes with homemade chips for $6.95. I ordered it med rare and it was cooked perfectly! The place looks like it hasn't changed much since it was opened in the 50's. very homey atmosphere and the bartender was very nice and gave great service! Lots of beer selections but they are famous for their extensive wine list which they won an award for.

“Local flavor”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 19, 2012

When a restaurant is listed in the local tourist mag AND recommended by a capitol guide and several locals, you know you MUST visit. Although a traffic circle (which locals hate) make it a bit difficult to navigate, there is ample parking in a lot across the street. The restaurant includes a patio with HUGE heaters for chilly nights, a center bar area, a large room to the left with a WALL-SIZED TV which makes you feel YOU ARE THERE, and another large room to the right of the bar. Locals told me it was a great mix of people - - politicians, students, folks who walk from the neighborhood, etc. The bartenders know their stuff and are friendly and efficient. I prefer local dark beer, and he steered me in the right direction. Bar is the oldest in Raleigh, and hundreds of beer cans decorate the walls, not to mention collectible mugs, bottles, steins, and more. Menu is extensive - something for everyone - and the chef publishes a specials sheet as well. From students watching a game to a family celebrating Grandma's birthday - - what more can you ask?

Very good service and enjoyed the opportunity to sit outside for lunch on a beautiful day. Not impressed with the food.

“Come for drinks, not food”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 14, 2012

Decent pub food. Good beer prices. Slow service. Do not come if you are in a hurry. Turkey Reuben had burnt toast and very little sauerkraut. PR sampler appetizer was fairly small, poppers were good. Burgers looked good. Homemade chips were a little stale. I'd come here again to drink and watch sports, but not for food.
