So, let's face it, Raleigh is not a sushi Mecca. I struggled to find my "regular" sushi place when I relocated here. Haru is now where I go weekly. The sushi is always fresh, expertly prepared, and reasonably-priced. The waitstaff and chef are lovely.

I do wish (and this is my wish for all sushi restaurants in Raleigh) that that there were a bit more variety in fish choices. And, the "specials" have been the same for 2 years! It would be nice to see those rotate a bit more.

Haru is a small restuarant and so if you go at 7 pm on a Friday, expect a wait. But you will leave happy.

Though Haru Sushi is tucked away in a small shopping center (albeit, an upscale shopping center) and is not large, we have had some of the freshest and best tasting sushi there over multiple visits during the last two years. Haru Sushi is our "go to" place for sushi in Raleigh. A great variety of common and uncommon sushi rolls, plus sashimi and other Japanese favorites such as tempura, meats, fish etc. Only "common" Japanese item missing from the menu is noodles. All the food is great, but the sushi is outstanding. Portions are moderate--not to big, not too small. Great service--only one time was it slow, when all the tables filled on a Wednesday night, with lower staffing levels. It is, after all, a small place, so that can be forgiven. The ambiance is quite nice--subdued lighting and spa-like colors and decor. Very, very friendly wait staff, who always try to please. Acceptable for well-behaved children. Seating options include tables, sushi bar and high-backed booths (great for privacy and conversation). Do serve some mixed drinks, Japanese beers and wines. Sushi roll prices range from app. 8-11$, entrees around 11-16$, as I recall.
