Owner description: One of the leading art museums in the American South, the North Carolina Museum of Art (NCMA) recently completed a major, three-year expansion that places it in the front ranks of museums nationwide. The NCMA offers a permanent collection spanning more than 5,000 years, a variety of celebrated exhibitions and public programs, an amphitheater for outdoor performances, and the nation’s largest museum park—164 acres of trails and parkland containing major works of art.

I has been years since I have visited this museum. Your selections are excellent. The outside landscapes are wonderful. Most museums do not include this aspect in the effect of the layouts. The new grounds and displays are well placed and easy to access. Thank you for making this one of the best planned museums I have visited. Before I had to struggle with steps and elevator waits. Thank you for thinking of the handicapped.

“An amazing museum in an unusual building.”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

The main collection has no admission cost and is very nice! There are pieces from a wide choice of styles to admire. The traveling exhibits require an admission fee. The museum building itself was a little plain for my tastes. I can highly recomend the guided tours. I spent half a day and felt that was enough time to see everything.

“Don't turn your noses up, big city folk...”

This is my adopted hometown museum, and it is also one of the best for its size that I know. I grew up in NYC museums, and I have been in many fine ones across the US and Europe. In addition to a diverse and surprisingly deep collection, there are high quality exhibitions on a regular basis. This is not a specialty museum, so will likely find the things you like best from antiquities to modern performance peices, and everything in between. The bonus to NCMA over a lot of classic "building" museums is the beautiful and vast campus surrounding an architectural masterpiece of a structure, with sculpture and gardens and even a lengthy art trail. Love the NCMA!
Y'all come check it out!

“Fun for children too!”
Reviewed July 18, 2013

While visiting my grad school son recently, he suggested that we drive to
Raleigh to participate in a family activity @ the N.C. Museum of Art.
My 6 yr old granddaughter and several other children were shown a few
Works of art first. Then they were led to a crafts room where they were
Encouraged to design their own currency. Their supplies were plentiful,
And a good time was had by all!
