Good venue to see traveling exhibits, but don't miss out on the permanent collection. They really have something for everyone

I never would have expected such an outstanding art museum in Raleigh, N.C. It had a good selection of European and American artists including Monet, Rodin, Wyeth, and many wonderful Dutch/Flemish paintings. Additionally, it has robust Egyptian, African and contemporary art exhibits. I was excited to find a masquerade costume from Benin where my daughter is in stationed in the Peace Corps. The main museum is made for displaying art work and is very well done. It is surrounded by several acres which includes paved walk ways and outdoor sculptures. The gift shop is wonderful and the museum cafe where we lunched had excellent food.

I believe an art museum should be a work of art itself. Ours is not. It looks like a large concrete warehouse for holding most anything but art. The collections are good enough but the outside view of the museum is an embarrassment. It has to have special lighting to keep it from looking like a national guard armory. They could have done better.

This is a very creative art museum, with collections ranging from modern to medieval Judaica to you name it. Spacious and airy, fine eating on site at decent prices, good parking, very close to Wade Avenue (extension of I-40) on Blue Ridge Road.

One of the best Regional Museums anywhere. The permanent collection is a real treasure.. it is perfect for teaching someone Art History, or for just enjoying. The visiting collections are usually outstanding. This is one of only a few cases anywhere of a State Government doing something really well!
