I was born in North Carolina but only recently got to go to the North Carolina Museum of Art for the first time and let me tell you....it..was..AMAZING! As an artist myself I could really appreciate the time and effort put into each peice (well, except for the awesome statues they have..never got into any stone work.) They also have a gift shop with some definite goodies for any art lover as well as a projected tree on the wall blowing in the wind. The branches look so awesome at first i didn't realize what it was. My favorite has to be the tribal exhibits which show off various masks, etc from around the world.

This is an amazing collection of artwork from all over the world. They also get many special exhibits including a Rembrandt exhibit that was amazing. Other than the special exhibits, the museum is free. Can't ask for more than that.

This is my second visit to the NCMA and it did not disappoint. One of the new highlights are ten pieces of art (paintings and sculptures) on temporary loan from the Chrysler Museum of Art, which is closed for renovations. These 10 pieces will be on display until February 7, 2014 and are locate in the West Building with free admission. I was fortunate to be the only "guest" for the 1:30pm museum highlight tour....my very own personal docent guide. Wear comfortable shoes and do not rush.

This is a great place to kill a couple of hours if you're visiting from out of town. I didn't get a chance to visit any of the special collections/exhibits, but the permanent collection has free admission and a decent variety of artwork. I does a great job of mixing in sculptures and artifacts for those who easily get bored of looking at paintings after a while. I enjoyed the Rodin sculptures and modern art as well as the ancient African and Egyptian areas. The staff was very friendly and accomodating. I got a great vibe from the cafe/restaurant, which I may dine at next time I'm in town. Overall, it's a great free attraction. If I had to pick out something I didn't like, it'd be the fact that it selectively included works from Europe, Egypt, Africa, and Central America, but I don't recall seeing anything of Asian culture...inclusion of art from Japan, China, India, and SE Asia would make the museum a bit more well-rounded.
