Owner description: The State Capitol building, built in 1840, is an excellent example of a civic structure in Greek Revival-style architecture. Though recently renovated, the building does contain some original furniture.

After being metal detected and screened, I enjoyed the tour of the 'peoples house' I actually met the Governor at the time. So tiny and short, I thought the governor was a child! oh my! But, politics aside, the Christmas time celebration is a must do on any list with the Christmas tree lighting, the mascots, and the music and caroling outside!

For security the first thing requested is your id and that you go through a metal detection gate. But this is handled fast and in a welcoming way. The third floor was our kids' favorite with an old library on one side and rock collection on the other side. A place worth stopping as full of history.

Very cool restoration of the Capital building for the Tar Heel State. Grounds represent some important figures in the NC and National History of this Country. Inside take a guided tour of the old Capital Bldg to see how she looked immediately prior and through the Civil War.

While there on March 23rd took in a free lecture on Mjr Bryan Grimes (CSA) given by a local history professor. Lots of Am. Civil War history to the taking....all w/out charge.
