Owner description: The State Capitol building, built in 1840, is an excellent example of a civic structure in Greek Revival-style architecture. Though recently renovated, the building does contain some original furniture.

The capital is a very fun place to go and visit for the afternoon if you are in Downtown Raleigh. It's easy to get to, has lots of statues outside of the capital building to look at, tons of history within the capital itself, and is just a really cool place to go. Highly recommended!

The capitol area is a great place to wander around. It is nice and clean well lit and it felt pretty safe. My kids and I have been down there several times and had a good time.

Classic state capitol architecture in a park like setting central to Raleigh and displays of various NC historical events. The usual pictures of past governors and judges. Well preserved legislator chambers and offices. Self guided tours or guided tours.

Arrived mid-morning on a beautiful day. The Capitol is situated on nice grounds that have numerous statues and a military tribute to all 5 of the branches of service. There is a huge parking lot across the street with reasonable rates.

It is a very down-home atmosphere here in Raleigh. The people are really nice. Only self-guided tours are available here, and you can be in and out of the building in under an hour.

Scored a business card from current Governor Bev Perdue, did not get to meet her, but got it from two really nice State Troopers.

The most interesting thing on the inside of the Capitol is the sculpture of George Washington that was done by an Italian artist from Italy that never even seen Mr. Washington. It portrays GW as an Italian Renaissance Man...it is quite interesting...you've never seen Mr. W portrayed this way.

The Capitol houses the OLD Senate and House. The new one's are located about a block north in the much newer and larger Legislative Building. The L.B. is open for viewing and you can see where both the House and Senate now meet.

There are also two great museums located within one block of the Capitol...Natural History and Science Museum, which are both free and must see's as well.
