“Enjoyed the BBQ”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2014

We are not from the NC area & so we asked around for a good BBQ restaurant. The Pitt was highly recommended. We had 9:00 pm reservations on a Sun night. When we arrived we noticed the hours on the door indicated closing at 9:00 pm. However, no problem because we had a reservation. There was plenty of parking across the street The atmosphere was very open & modern-not what I would have expected for a BBQ restaurant. The music was blaring so it was difficult to talk even though we were almost the only customers. The wait staff was OK-they were probably tired. They announced that they were out of Pulled Pork. We enjoyed the corn bread & biscuits. We shared the bacon bruschetta & it was delicious. They allowed us to order a small salad as one of our sides. We were expecting to complete our appetizer, then complete the salad & then be served the entrée. However, within 5 minutes we had the entire meal crowding our table! The chopped BBQ just melted in your mouth & it came w/2 types of sauces. The beef brisket wasn't as tender but it also was very tasty. The double combo was a great way to sample a number of items-the meatloaf was good. The cole slaw & sweet potato fries were also good.

“Raleigh staple ”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2014 via mobile

The Pit is North Carolina BBQ perfection. I am from NC and we take our BBQ very seriously. I absolutely loved The Pit. My boyfriend and I had the pumpkin cornbread and it was amazing, moist, different from your typical cornbread but delicious in every way. My boyfriend had the ribs and I had the pulled pork. The portions were large (just like the south) and the food was great. We have been back several times since our first visit a couple months ago.

“Quantity versus quality”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2014

Good place if you're very hungry and want simple food. Lots of carbohydrates - biscuits, hush puppies, fries, and sauces. The drinks had no alcohol and were small. The fried chicken was OK - the crust was soggy, but the chicken had nice flavor. The service was very good. An OK place for a mid-week dinner, and for families.

“Great NC Barbeque Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 25, 2014

We found The Pit by using our phone driving from Greenville to Charlotte. We plugged in a "barbeque" search. It was a random choice but so glad we found it. We were looking for NC barbeque and found some great eats. The ribs fell off the bone, the brisket was tasty and the NC chopped was tangy and flavorful. All of sides were delicious and so were both side sauces. We left stuffed and happy.
On top of that, our service was outstanding. Our servers were extremely personable and friendly. Even knowing we were from out of state, they packed up a piece of cake for my daughter who was celebrating her birthday on the day we were there. If I ever find myself back in Raleigh, I'll be going back.

After reading the many positive reviews for The Pit on Trip Advisor, we made a special stop there while passing by Raleigh on our way south for vacation. We were not disappointed. The reveiws for this restaurant are spot on....The food was delicious, the service top rate, the atmosphere was perfect and there is a large parking area directly across the street. Great place!!
