“The best chopped pork in town”
Reviewed October 5, 2013

My title says it all. Over the years I have tried the Pit, and have always found it good but not great. Recently I have found the secret, and it makes sense (to me, at least). This is whole hog country. Not rib or brisket country. By sticking with their chopped pork I have been really, really happy. Add their excellent sides (especially the greens and Mac & cheese) and this is a great place. The other BBQ they have is good, but not great. I hear the fried chicken is good, but haven't tried it. My advice is to stick with what this area is known for, Eastern Carolina chopped pork!

“Loved It!”
Reviewed September 30, 2013

Stopped by in the middle of afternoon when you sometimes get less than admirable service at other places....but these folks were great, the food was fresh, service excellent and very attentive. The barbecue is fantastic and the fried chicken as good as it gets. Make it a point to find this place when in the area.

“Great barbecue”
Reviewed September 30, 2013 via mobile

From outside on the street you can smell what you will be getting into and it smells amazing. The wait staff was very accommodating and brought me plenty of beers. They also advised me on what to eat which was a great recommendation. I would come here again. I loved the ribs.

“Family Style's What I'm Talking About”
Reviewed September 29, 2013 via mobile

Tried it for a leisurely Sunday lunch. Ordered the family style off back of menu. Filled up on cornbread and rings. Next came the pulled pork and fried chicken. Chicken was average, pork was great. Liked both sauces on table. Sides were great. Chocolate cake for dessert was superb. I can only eat a bite, but....

Excellent service, perfect atmosphere to eat nice lunch and chat with our daughter and her boyfriend.

Perfect !!!!
