We visited the museum recently to see the exotic bird exhibit with our 3 grandchildren. The museum itself is free but the exhibit cost $6 for adults and $4 for children. We enjoyed the bird exhibit initially but soon the information became repetitive. Our grandchildren are 6, 4 and 3 yrs old. They got bored pretty quickly as it was really geared for older children and adults.
When we left the exhibit, there was all sorts of things to see and do but again, we felt it was geared toward an older age. That's great for families with that age children. There truly were lots of hands on rooms and things to do.
The museum actually encompasses 2 different buildings with a walkway over the road that spans the two. The kids thought that was fun watching the traffic go by underneath them.
Parking was not too bad because it was a weekend but I'm sure that during the week, it's much harder to find a space because of all the people that work downtown.

This is a nice museum to visit if you have a free afternoon in Raleigh. They have some very thorough exhibits and the museum seems to be very well run. Best of all, it's free!

This is a very nice museum. Kids and adults can easily find wonderful things to learn. We have been there with our 6 year old boy who loved it. The exibit on the birds of paradise is outstanding. The prblem is that the museusm does not have its own parking space and the one availavle is a public one that is not enough...
Highly reccomended

This is a great little museum that you could easily spend a day at or enjoy for a couple hours, like we did. They exhibits are well maintained and organized. We especially enjoyed the marine skeletons and dinosaurs. There is a lot for adults and children to enjoy and IT'S FREE! I can't believe a museum of this quality is free. We love it!

Beautiful building. Easy to find and really enjoyed watching the staff work behind the plexiglass. Needs to be bigger.
