“Free camping”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 28, 2014 via mobile

In the town of mills river NC, just past the Asheville airport turn right into national forest road and follow for several miles, through a front county camp ground and up a gravel road, you will come to several free camping spots set mountainside near a stream. The sites are void of any facilities however there is a Walmart and many local stores within a 10 mile drive. We will certainly use these sites again.

“Beautiful”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2014

Beautiful drive on 276 between Brevard and Waynesville. Highly recommended. Looking Glass Falls are right off the highway (no hiking required). Also, don't miss Sliding Rock. Fun for the entire family.

“Serene Drive”

At this time of year the forest was lush and green. The road was well maintained with plenty of pullouts for appreciation of beauty and picture taking.

“Fascinating information on trout ... and it's free”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 23, 2014

First, I'd say that the way TripAdvisor has this listed is somewhat confusing. The Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education and Bobby Setzer Trout Hatchery is in the Pisgah National Forest, but it is only one of dozens of different attractions. The Wildlife Education Center and Hatchery is located at 1401 Fish Hatchery Rd., Pisgah Forest, off U.S. Hwy. 276 near Brevard. It's open Mon.-Sat. 8-4:45 year-round.

I've visited this site dozens of times over the years and never tire of seeing the trout hatchery with the tens of thousands of trout of all sizes and ages.

The trout hatchery is the largest in the state. Rainbow, brown and native brook trout are raised in more than 50 concrete tanks or raceways. The hatchery stocks about a half a million trout each year in more than 80 mountain trout streams.

Admission ot he Wildlife Education Center and Trout Hatcher is free, but you can buy fish food pellets (I think they're a quarter) and feed the trout.

There is also a small museum/visitor center here and a short hiking trail.

Also you'll see a lot of people trout fishing in the Davidson River that runs past the center and hatchery.

“Great free day trip!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 19, 2014

We went on a Saturday in the Jeep with the top down. Perfect weather. The only thing other than gas we spent money on was fish food at the Pisgah Center for Wildlife Education. The staff there were very friendly. Lots of interesting things to look at and beautiful sights to see!
