Beautiful views. Well layed out.
Great practice facilties.

Wide fairways. Tough but fair greens.

Started quad par bogie quad and then parred out. Keep your drive out of the trees and you'll be fine.

I do agree with a previous review about no OB. It does certainly help when you blast a shot into someone's yard and then get a free drop two clubs from the white stakes. Apparently they are changing this rule soon. OB is coming to National.

Anyhow, I would recommend it for the price an quality of course.

Local rule

A nice course but the ranger threatened us about every other hole. We had never played this course before but could not enjoy our round. They expect 10 minutes a hole and threatened if we took 12.

The National is a Jack Nicklaus design that has stood the test of time over 20 years. The course is kept in great shape and is very golfer friendly. Fairways are wide and errant tee shots are helped by a local rule where there is no out of bounds on the course (the club does ask you to take a drop, without penalty if you hit into one of the residence's yards). Addtionally, with the exception of the Par 3's and one Par 4, the 90-degree rule applies pretty much up to the edge of the greens.

The course is challenging and with a strong opening 5 holes. Number One is one of the tougher opening holes that I have seen, followed by a Par 3 with a 150 yard carry over water. The short Par 4 third, is a dogleg right where you must find the correct tier on the green.
The fourth is the #1 handicap hole and a demanding Par 5. You must position your drive between trees to your left and a lake that parallels the fairway to the right. Your second shot must cross the lake and negotiate fairway bunkers leaving 120-150 yards to an uphill elevated green guarded by bunkers and a slope that repels shots the come up short.
Your drive on the firfth hole must crest a hill leaving a mid-iron to a shallow green protected by a creek and greenside bunker.

The greens themselves offer the must challenge. All are double or triple tiered featuring swales and humps that can lead to three putts.

A good test of golf and a well manicured, beautiful course await those who tee off at The National.
