An absolute must play on any golfer's bucket list. The refurbishment by Crenshaw and Coore made dramatic changes to the course in attempting to return it to the way Mr. Ross left it. While this is not my favorite course to play every day, it is one that I enjoy replaying every few weeks. As a member I can play it frequently without mortgaging my house. If you are only going to play it once you simply must go full bore and have a caddie. If Willie McRae is available you will find yourself in the company of a walking, breathing bit of golf history. He has caddied for the likes of Bob Jones, Ben Hogan and nearly every great player of the last 60 years and is a member of the caddie Hall of Fame. It is an extremely diffficult golf course, particularly on days when the greens are fast. Whatever you do, trust your cadddie's advice as far as targets on greens and putting lines. Many holes can be birdied, but the slightest mistake can cost several strokes. Expect balls that land on greens to roll off into trouble if not placed in the correct part of the greens. Staying at the resort on a package is a good deal. The green fee surcharge is still not cheap, but the overall package including room, breakfast and dinner is well worth it.
