As always two fantastic days, great golf, beutiful suroundings, friendly staff.
Dinner at the Carolina was excellent.
Playing no 3 and 5 was great. No 3 was really difficult, they could have spent a little more on the general finish.

I recently stayed at the Carolina Hotel - Pinehurst Resort for a large golf tournament. (Nov 1-4 2012) My 3 teammates and I had an exceptional stay. The resort itself is an iconic location for those who are avid golfers, but there is a great deal to do for those who may not play the game. The Resort was absolutely first class in every respect.

Upon arrival, there was ample, conveniently located self parking as well as valet service. The entrance was spectacularly adorned with classic landscaping and ornate topiary. The check-in process was easy and fast, and our room was ready when we arrived at 10:30 in the morning, no waiting. The room was very comfortable, yet not overly large. It did have a nice walk-in closet and alcove with comfy chairs as well. The bath was clean and well supplied and all the fixtures were classy and in working order.

There was shuttle service to the golf courses (which requires a separate review). There were also all the typical services easily available through guest services, booking tee times, making reservations, etc.

There were are a variety of dining options in the hotel and all were very well staffed and comfortable. The dining areas are all decorated in golf themed traditional "club house" type decor with bug comfy chairs and large tables. The food itself was very high quality and served in generous portions. The menus always included a variety of choices with a ride range of price options. A guest could go very high end on dinner and get the surf and turf, or opt for a more modest option that was also very well presented and tasty.

The facility can easily accomodate very large groups, golf tournaments, weddings, conferences etc. My group was very impressed and are very much looking forward to a return visit soon.

Room Tip: Rooms on the ground floor of the East Wing, while a bit removed from the center of the resort, are v...

The local community is great, many unique shops and restaurants. There is so much golf history here you can feel it!
Golfing #2 was an incredible experience. At first we debated on whether to get caddies or not. DON'T DEBATE IT! Get the caddies, they made the trip exponentially more enjoyable, and that is not an exaggeration. Think about it, if you ride a cart on the path next to the course, you do not get the feel of being there, where all the pros have walked over so many years. The stories and humor shared by our caddies had us laughing and enjoying the round more than I had imagined. Without their knowledge we would have scored much worse, and we learned from them as well (both were low handicap golfers in their own right).

We stayed at the Holly Inn, very comfortable and with a great Tavern for food and drink, with outstanding staff. The local shuttle service worked out extremely well, never had to wait long to get anywhere in the village.

I can't remember the name of one shop in particular, but it was a small golf memorabilia shop, full of historic pictures and autographs of famous moments and professionals, and very reasonably priced.

We truly had a wonderful time, and although in all not an inexpensive trip, most definitely worth it and a memory of being with my sons that I will cherish and talk about for a life time.

Pinehurst resort is a terrific place for a golf vacation or a spa weekend. The rooms are lovely in the Carolina Inn; villa rooms are nice, but a bit darker. If traveling with a group, the villas and attached common area could be a great solution. We've stayed several times and it's been pretty consistent. The spa is fabulous; massages and facials have been very good; be specific about what you want, and they deliver. You can take advantage of all spa amenities as a client of any service; definitely worth it. While I've personally not played golf, the course is apparently terrific - almost any one of the courses is a treat.

Stayed at The Carolina for one of Pinehursts famous Food & Wine Festivals. The festival was a lot of fun although I was easily one of the youngest people in attendance. There were a couple of occasions when some of the wine vendors were stingy with their pours but for the most part it was a room of very enthusiastic food and wine professionals catering to a large crowd of food and wine lovers. The room was beautiful and the bed was the perfect comfort level for our 'Food & Wine Festival Hangovers'. Would love to come back and check out the golf courses.

We stayed here for our wedding weekend and wanted and expected a fabulous experience due to price and reputation. We were disappointed to say the least. This supposed 5 star hotel lacked basic amentities found at every hotel, even a comfort inn, such as cribs ! Bath tub and floor had a weird , dangerous difference in level and almost broke my neck. Service was not high caliber. There were loud obnoxious employees at one point gossiping in Lobby of this beautiful establishment. Not classy or professional. Consistency was lacking in whether or not they felt like opening doors for us, even when I was carrying a baby . Most of the time there was no service, not even that of basic hotels. We were very disappointed and frankly wish we would have saved 1200 dollars and stayed at the homewood suites with everyone else. We thought we would splurge for our wedding and get some five star treatment but we only received the price tag. I hoped for better but it seems like the Carolina just doesnt think they need to put in any effort.
