When it comes to rate & review beaches, After I have been in Vieques Island, Culebras Island, and Mona Island,(at 50 feet you could see the sand and think is only 5 -6 feet deep) you will not give too many 5's to any other Beach, for the East Coast of the Continental US of A it is an Above average beach, border line great , when it comes to the sand and the serenity, there are parts of the beach that you might be the only one in up to a mile, and all that is AWESOME, but the water is not Kristal Clear, actually is kind of murky and Brown, you can't see your feet at waist deep water, and that is why I don't put any beach in NC, VA, MD, at more than 4, plus is too windy, and in the Summer the Moskitos will have a feast with you, Best part of my trip was the Bed & Breakfast we stayed, "The cove" voted in 2009 one of the top 100 B&B in the Country and the Best in NC.
WE (me and my Wife) were celebrating OUR 20 yrs Anniversary in The Outer Banks. And drove down the Coast from Norfolk, VA 136 mile all the way to OcraCoke Island, NC. The Ferry is FREE.

Most beaches on Ocracoke require 4WD vehicles to get there, plus a permit to drive on them. But, there are plenty of places to rent such vehicles at reasonable rates. This particular beach requires no special vehicle. All are welcome to park and walk up over the dune to the endless shoreline. The beach there, not unlike most all the beaches along the Outer Banks are seemingly endless and sparsely covered with people. If you like walking a beach, you are gonna LOVE this area. Good waves, and in this instance, supremely delightful water temps! No pain getting in, and no desire to get out! I can't say whether or not this is typical in September.

Finally introduced my family to Ocracoke and they instantly fell in love. Great beaches and not crowded, plus excellent surf fishing.

We love coming to Ocracoke every year. The beautiful beach is the number one reason. It's clean, not developed, quiet, and there aren't a lot of people. Depending which ramp you chose, it's possible you could be the only person on the beach. The day use area closest to town has showers, rest rooms, and a changing areas, but the beaches closest to the Hatteras ferry has better shelling locations. You won't be disappointed.

Great parking , clean bathrooms and dressing rooms, outside shower, boardwalk to the beach! I never saw a lifeguard but did see a forest ranger patroling the parking lot and beach area. Beautiful clean beaches.
