We visited Edwards and stayed for 4 days. We had two cottages. The room was nice and reminded me of when I was a child and went to the shore, clean and quiet. Our bathroom was large with a great shower, Our kitchen we didn't use except the ref. All the cooking was done in the other cottage. Screened in porch was nice but small, so outside we went into the courtyard. Meeting our neighbors and sharing conversation, listened to music and joked around. It was like we had known them for years. Watched the children play. Everyone was wonderful. The weather was great even when it rained, Walked around the neighborhood, Visited and shopped. The beach was not far away. The guys that stayed in another cottage enjoyed telling their fish stories when they came back to their cottage at night. We cooked outside at night on the grill provided with the cottage. Great place and we will go again and again. Hope all of you will go and visit this place, it is like going home for me.

We visited Ocracoke for the first time in June 2012. I was looking for something on the waterfront, but most hotels were a little too pricey. So we decided to try Edwards, which is on a quiet side street. It was very reasonable, about $125 per night during prime season. We selected the efficiency cottage, which has two double beds and a single bed. It also has a refrigerator, stove, sink, coffee maker, and kitchen table. That allowed us to keep our food costs down, especially eating breakfast and sometime lunch at the cottage and saving our money for a nice evening out. The decor is retro '60's, nothing fancy but very clean. They have WiFi and a TV. It also has a screened front porch with chairs and a clothes line to dry out towels. They offer free ice for coolers if you ask at the desk. We loved the courtyard area, which is shaded by a huge live oak tree and adorned with swinging chairs and picnic tables. Although this is a "family" oriented establishment, it was very quiet. Most evenings and mornings, we found people sitting on their porches reading books or quietly enjoying coffee. All of the shops and restaurants are within walking distance. For fun, rent a golf cart for the day and explore the island - it will cost about $60, but great fun if you have kids. The only thing that you have to drive to is the beach. It a few miles away, but very clean with showers and toilets. There is a lifeguard on duty from 10 am until around 5 pm, but get there early as the lifeguarded section is fairly small.

Read the reviews! They are consistently good. That is why we decided to stay at Edwards of Ocracoke, and we were not disappointed. We spent 4 days and 3 nights in July and would most definitely recommend
Edwards. If you reserve a room, you will probably be delighted to find that Edwards is located off the "beaten path" but still within walking distance of anywhere (except the beach) that you will want to go. When we return to the island, I don't think, however, that we will select July or August as a destination date. It was rather hot and more people were visiting the island than we anticipated.

Room Tip: In the courtyard area, request a room with a newly remodeled bath.

We have stayed here several times. Mrs. Clark is wonderful along with the rest of her family. There's not a thing they would not do for you if you needed something. The office has ice for a nominal fee which is just perfect for loading up the cooler in the morning before hitting the beach. The rooms are simple and each one has it's own charm. You can walk to the coffee shop easily and you are close to the infamous "Back Porch". Some of the units have a screened porch which is a plus when the squeeters are thick. It's a simple place that will remind you of easier times.

Room Tip: Courtyard is your spot if you are social.

We just completed our third trip to the island and have stayed at Edwards each time. During that time we've had 3 different courtyard rooms...one was an efficiency. This trip we didn't get the kitchenette, but the room was large nonetheless. The a/c worked fine and the room had the unmistakeable "beach" aroma that rooms inevitably get at the beach. I have to say that I prefer this smell to a "febreezed" room. The shower was small but other than that the room was great. The retro decor is always interesting at Edwards. There is a refrigerator in the room which is much larger than the little dorm-sized units you'd see at a chain hotel. So if you want to bring half gallons of milk, 2 liter drinks, or lunch fixings, no worries keeping them cold. EoO is just a few steps away from the Back Porch restaurant which comes in handy after a long day of traveling...sometimes you just don't want to get back in the car! The courtyard is canopied by a big live oak, and has several picnic tables and seating areas to relax. Each room has a small screen porch which is great for enjoying coffee or a snack when the wind isn't stirring and you don't want to mess with insect repellent. Thank you, EoO.

Room Tip: Staying on the courtyard is convenient. The small courtyard parking area has a low spot-don't pa...
